Title: Some FavesSoft Hotkey programs updated for Windows 7
Post by: MilesAhead on October 30, 2009, 05:54 PM
FavesSoft Hotkey programs listed below were updated for Windows 7

FolderCache
HomeFolder
Pasty
ReOpen
Selector

It's just a minor update for Windows version number detection.  In Windows 7 a memory optimization may not be called since the version of AutoIt3 used did not have an enumeration for Windows Seven OS.  It's just a reduction of memory working set and a minor optimization at that.  Latest corrected programs can be downloaded from this link:

http://www.favessoft.com/hotkeys.html

Called EmptyWorkingSet to reduce the memory footprint in several additional utilities:

TopmostToggle
SourceSnap
Control-EnterVista
HalfShell

All the latest versions may be downloaded via the link in the first post.

HomeFolder 1.6 has been updated to avoid redundant Tray Icon double-clicks and tray menu commands without resorting to hiding the icon.  This avoids the unpleasant side effect of icons moving around in the tray.

Does this happen on all programs? For example if you click on Firefox or chrome and hit the hotkey, does it open Windows folder or the browser install folder? It should open the folder where the executable that owns the window is located. If this is an Explorer window then it would be the Windows folder.

Please give more details.

It's general.
Over a pdf in a data disk also open the windows system folder
In my system in M: opens M:\Windows
and in second time open the windows folders without legends or without letters of the name of the folders included in the windows folder.
Best Regards
I have assumed that the home folder corresponds to the main folder
That is :
Folder c:\Datos\Subdata\Subfolder\p.pdf is
c:\datos

Home Folder is meant to open the folder where the executable program that owns the window lives. In other words, if I have EditPadLite.exe editor installed in "C:\Program Files\JGsoft\EditPadLite\" and I hit the hotkey with EditPadLite window active, it will open that folder.

Edit: what may be happening if your case, if the PDF viewer is really a printer driver, it may be installed in the Windows directory.

I am doing something wrong because I obtain the same folder all the times.
I put three screenshots using the combination of shift+minus sign in the numkeypad and obtaining always the opening of the system windows folder : M:\WINDOWS

First proof . I executed the program. Apply the hotkeys that appear in the option : About HomeFolder

Control {NUMPADSUB} opens command prompt - Yes
Alt {NUMPADSUB} shows no interaction . I see nothing
Shift {NUMPADSUB} opens M:\windows according to this screenshot.
I observ this version don't need or don't create the file HomeFolder.ini
If I execute shift option alternativately once time I see the names of the folders inside M:\windows, and the next time (closing the window before) no names.
I have applied the above options mantaining selected the main executable HomeFolder as you see in the screenshot, and also over the zip file, with the same results.

I don't know what's going on here. I tried recompiling and now it doesn't want to work on my system.  Try New Folder 2 from this page:

http://www.favessoft.com/hotkeys.html

It has the same Home Folder hotkey function.

I think is not possible. I have windows xp, and that script is indicated for Vista and later.
Time to wait and respect the time necessary to depure my problem.

Try right clicking on Home Folder and selecting Run As Administrator. If that doesn't do it, then I have no clue what the issue is. Are you using a Non-English language version of Windows? If so I have no way to support it. You may have to find another tool on Softpedia or another download page.

edit:

btw, the only reason it says "for Vista and Later" for New Folder 2 is because XP already has a New Folder function via pressing F7 if I remember correctly.  Try the home folder function just to see if it works. If it does not, even when run as administrator, then I must assume it's because you're not running an English language flavor of Windows.

I have these requirements posted on all my download pages:

================

Requirements

Windows XP or later (unless otherwise noted.)

Explorer utilities require "Display full path in title bar" enabled in Folder Options.

Taskbar Gap/Work Area utilities require taskbar AutoHide disabled.

Note: Utilities tested on English Language versions of Windows.

I have no way to support Unicode or non-English Windows. Just can't be done.

Just for chuckles try this one I did in AHK_L. It's supposed to have better Unicode support.

The hotkey is Control-F2

It's just a bare bones for test.

Ok. I'll implement using AHK_L. When I upload I'll make a note here.

Title: Re: Some FavesSoft Hotkey programs updated for Windows 7
Post by: MilesAhead on April 04, 2012, 03:21 PM
I've implemented it as a single hotkey.  Default is Shift-NumPadSub to open home folder of active window. Use Edit IniFile command or edit the ini file manually to change the hotkey.

It's been uploaded to the hotkey page. You should delete your ini file or just make an empty folder to avoid any ini settings conflicts/errors.

http://www.favessoft.com/hotkeys.html

I've added icons to the tray menu. It may be a good idea to unzip to an empty folder. Although the icon files are not supposed to overwrite existing files. But if you coincidentally had a file such as Dollar.ico in the same folder, the correct icon would not be shown. So empty folder unzip is best.

OK. Let me know if anything acts weird. If AHK_L Unicode is this easy then I may port more hotkey things I did in AutoIt3 over to it.

Home Folder 2.1 I broke out a separate program, HomeFolder_IconInst.exe, to extract the Tray Menu Icons for Home Folder. This makes HomeFolder.exe a bit smaller sitting in the tray.  When HomeFolder.exe starts it looks in the folder it is in, for the necessary icons. If any are missing, it runs HomeFolder_IconInst.exe to self extract them.

Please download latest, 2.11.  I fixed a bug with Tray Menu Icon handling. Now if the program cannot restore missing tray icons, it does not attempt to load them in the tray menu.

I'm not sure what you mean. Folders open but show no contents?

If the correct folder opens and doesn't show anything inside I don't know what I can do.  The program calls Run built-in function with the folder path. It's the system that opens the folder.

If it's something else please clarify.

edit: I compiled another copy that calls ShellExecuteA or ShellExecuteW depending on unicode. Please try it:

HomeFolder_IconInst.exe is supposed to be in the same folder as HomeFolder.exe.  That's what contains the icons. However, the new version should not try to load the icons if it cannot run HomeFolder_IconInst.exe and any of the icons are missing. It should just show the Tray Menu plain.

And continues the alternation with o without legends in the home folder.

Same thing happens on my system, but I'm using Win7.  What he's doing is trying to hit Shift+NumPadSub from an Explorer window and then he's getting the message:
---------------------------
HomeFolder
---------------------------
Could not determine Home Path of Active Window!
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

(But in spanish).  HomeFolder then closes. I tried running it as administrator as well.

Try this one

This is why I didn't want to open Unicode can of worms. I only have English language Windows for testing. So I'm afraid if this doesn't do it, there's nothing I can do.

Also if you are running a 64 bit version of Windows, Explorer will be located in a Folder that's shielded by redirection from 32 bit programs.  HomeFolder is 32 bit and will be run under SysWow64 emulator.

I'm sorry but these programs are written "for my own use" and shared with those who can use them. A bug or something fixable I will try to correct it. But that doesn't include purchasing multiple language copies of Windows and installing them to support give-away utilities. It's beyond my capacity.

edit: I just tried it on a 64 bit system. I get the same error. But it works when used on a window from a 32 bit program. I should add code to screen out Explorer windows. There's really no point in going to the "home folder" of an explorer window anyway.

Sorry about the Unicode thing.  But I'm lucky if I can eat to the end of each month. I'm in no shape to buy software.

Since I have nothing to test it on, I repeat, I cannot support Unicode non English Windows systems. I've marked the utility on my site as:

(XP and later : 32 bit English Language Windows only)

HomeFolder 2.3 I added OS 64 bit detection and system language detection to the startup code. If 64 bit OS or Windows has a system language other than US, UK, AUS, or CAN English, the utility terminates.
