nice idea for a bonus feature to remove existing numbers from a list at the start of operations.

Yes, this is actually the first item on the ToDo list.  Trout (http://skwire.dcmembers.com/wb/pages/software/trout.php), Ten Timer (http://skwire.dcmembers.com/wb/pages/software/ten-timer.php) and Snap DB (http://skwire.dcmembers.com/wb/pages/software/snap-db.php) have been taking my time lately but I promise to get to this one as well.

This program is still kickin ass for me!  My workflow in Word has completely changed.  No more numbering using Word's list features or manual entering each number or letter.  I copy the block of text, paste it in list numberer, alter it the right way, and paste it back into work.  No fancy features other than tab stops.  By far my most used new tool of 2011.

Wonderful!  I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but you do know that you can insert tabs in the prefix or suffix using the \t token, right?  Anything else you want added to this?

If you want, I can make it so the prefix and suffix fields are combo boxes.  That way, you could save your favourites of each.

That would be cool!  Would it just keep track of the history, like the last 10 items?  Either way, it sounds like a gret idea.

I could make it like that or make it so you can add/edit the entries manually.  That way, favourites don't get cycled out.

Hallo!
I have downloaded and begun to test the "listnumberer" script.
I have prepared a simple text fíle of how I would like to use it, but cannot find a way to send the zip so I am adding it here.

EN_sentence_in.txt / EN_sentence_in.zip

ENS   This is a file of English text sentences.

ENS   Each example is a so-called simple sentence.

ENS   Some sentences have only a main clause.

ENS   Other examples have both a main clause and also a predicate.

ENS   The reason for the sentence file is to explain the process of translation into German.
DES   The reason for the sentence file is the process of translating into German to explain.

ENS   This process has the following steps.

ENS   All sentence-parts | in each sentence | are | separated | with a bar.
DES   All sentence-parts |  in each sentence | are | with a bar | separated.

ENS   Each sentence-part order is changed according to the German word order rules.
DES   Each sentence-part order is according to the German word order rules changed.

ENS   The third step is the marking of each sentence-part with so-called role tags.
DES   The third step is with so-called role tags the marking of each sentence-part.

ENS   The fourth step is to perform any necessary transformation from English to German format.
DES   The fourth step is from English to German format any necessary transformation to perform.

ENS   The fifth step is the storage of the changes in a simple database table.
DES   The fifth step is in a simple database table the storage of the changes.
TFM   The fifth step is in a simple database table the changes to store.

ENS   The sentences will be then translated.

Explanation, which is not used as part of the text input file.

The translation in this framework is performed at the level of sentence parts.
These sentence parts in the ENS and DES formats and in Translation are stored in a table database.

The file is to be used in conjunction with the "listnumberer".

1. The mnemonics at the start of each sentence are:
   ENS    = English Sequence.
   DES    = Deutsch Sequence.
TFM    = Transformation from an English to a German Format.

2. The movement from ENS to DES is rules driven and there are principally three prime rules.
Moving the Object to the end of the sentence.
A Verb Past Participle is moved to the last place following the Object.
A Verb Infinitive is moved to the place before the Past Partciple and following the Object.

3. The introduction of transformation
TFM    = Transformation: used only once above to restructure with a verb replacing a noun.

If there is something that is not understandable or you need to ask questions then please email me.

I am ready to post my translation framework, but this could improve its visual presentation.

Thanks and regards, patforkin.

Possible bug in o/s W10

Hope this will reproduce it in other o/s

Source three rows of "Original"

Prefix "Long"
Suffix ".jpg"
System Decimal
Start Numbering at "008"
Increment Numbering by "1"
Pad to this many places "3"

Preview
Long008.jpgOriginal
Long009.jpgOriginal
Long010.jpgOriginal

I am using the util to create a long url list in format Prefix/sequentialnumber/suffix
but the above illustrates the issues

Where should "Original" appear?

What were you expecting to see there?
Title: Re: NANY 2011 Release: List Numberer
Post by: magician62 on October 07, 2015, 12:06 PM
Between Prefix and Suffix, though wasn't exactly sure where the number would appear :)

It may just need clarification of where it will appear.
Title: Re: NANY 2011 Release: List Numberer
Post by: skwire on October 07, 2015, 12:09 PM
To clarify, it goes like this:

<prefix><number><suffix><original text>

The intent was so that you could easily do things like...

#1) Original
#2) Original
#3) Original

...where "#" is the prefix and ") " is the suffix (with the number between).

In my case it works in that I have a blank source, add a prefix a number and suffix and I can create a list :)

Great for creating a sequential URL list for processing elsewhere.
