Title: Psychonauts
Post by: p3lb0x on February 03, 2008, 08:53 AM
Psychonauts, one of the weirdest games I have played EVER.

In Psyconauts you play the rule of Rasputin or Raz as he calls himself. Raz is a psychic with alot of talent but no training so he runs away from home to go to a summer camp for psychics. But shortly after hes arrival weird stuff begin to happen, and its up to Raz to save the day.

Raz acquires such skills as pyrokenises, telekineses, clairvoyance and levitation through hes travels.
He will be using these powers to battle such monsters as: telekinetic bears, Pyrokinetic cougars, the lungfish military, a fat super hero and squirrels.

Psychonauts is a mix of puzzle solving, platforming and action. The gameplay might be a bit repetitive and boring after a while but the dark humor in the game is on the same level as portal's. I highly recommend this game to anyone with an evolved sense of humor. I will provide some pictures to show the weirdness of the game

Psychonauts is one of my favourite games of all time, though strangely I've never completed it!

Must go back and conquer the last level sometime.

Psychonauts is really a great game! I think i´ll take a look again in the next weeks.
Nearly all games of Dave Perry (MDK, Sacrifice & Messiah) that have not been licenced products like Matrix - Path of Neo, are big gaming-jewels and very special in their way. I don´t understand why they never have been sold very good.

Dave Perry? AFAIK he isn't associated with Psychonauts at all!

It is a Tim Schaffer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Schafer) game, made by his post-Lucas Arts company Double Fine Productions.

And just an FYI, last I checked, Psychonauts is free from GameTap. Anyone who is interested can try it out.

I am now reading about gametap. It's something i had never seen and didn't know existed.

They provide a very interesting service, having a flatrate that provides 9 accounts if just great, you can divide with your friends and each one pays 1usd per month!

Deozaan: since you're more informed about it, could you make a post here on DC about it? :)

A few suggestions for your mini-review:

"portals" -> "Portal's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_(video_game))" ... and add some comments to the screenshots :)

GameTap gained prominence when they funded Telltale Games' Sam & Max (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=10789.0) episodic adventure game. in return, Telltale gave special dispensation to GameTap to distribute the game solely on their network for a limited time.

P.S. i'm well into episode 3 now.. ;)

I don't know that much about GameTap. I just downloaded it when I heard it was offering Psychonauts for free, since I never got a chance to play it on PS2. Sadly, I haven't even played Psychonauts yet even though I downloaded it from GameTap some months ago.

I'm not fond of the idea of installing a game download service that has to be installed and running to play my PC games. I'd rather just buy the game. I haven't yet bought into the idea of a subscription format for movies or games as I'm very stingy when it comes to spending money.
