Not all apps run well from the desktop. Try moving it to somewhere else. I have learned from experience that the desktop is best for storing shortcuts to apps and not the apps themselves. ;)-app103 (January 01, 2014, 07:59 PM)
Strangely none of those listed in the linked thread made a difference. Same error.
However it works fine on 7, if you want to pursue the XP issue further, I will try other things. However, if there are no other similar reports then it's no problem, who knows what's up with my XP (if all goes as planned I will say goodbye to it in April anyway)-rgdot (January 01, 2014, 01:32 PM)
Working well on my XP machines...both of them.-app103 (January 02, 2014, 06:49 AM)
Maybe it's not the downloading... it's the copying of the information?-wraith808 (January 02, 2014, 12:03 PM)
 Now it works! Downloaded info about 7 TV series.-Windjammer (January 03, 2014, 10:15 AM)
Now that it works I found a thing you might want to consider changing. The "Move 'The' to the end..." option does not work if you already downloaded a series starting with 'The' without the option checked.-Windjammer (January 03, 2014, 10:15 AM)
Thanks for the amazingly quick response.-Windjammer (January 03, 2014, 10:15 AM)
OK, didn't see those options under Edit nor right-click so I just deleted the series and downloaded it again, with the option checked this time... //M-Windjammer (January 03, 2014, 10:28 AM)

Can you add option to see series from PREVIOUS and NEXT week? Also, I would prefer if it can use option "week starts on Monday", if possible.-ZoNi.011 (January 06, 2014, 05:32 AM)
Until today, I have used EpGuides.com Watcher, and it has "previous/next" buttons, but overall I think epCheck is better.-ZoNi.011 (January 06, 2014, 05:32 AM)
Thank you for your answer! :) I have set 10 days previous and 10 in future, that should be enough.-ZoNi.011 (January 06, 2014, 12:17 PM)
I Love EpCheck as it is but have a few suggestions.
1)The website TVDB.COM mentions the Air Day, Air Time, Network on the first page for each series example = TVDB.COM Almost Human (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=267702&lid=7) This data could be retrieved and displayed hopefully in the Weekly Tab and in the Series Tab. The second Column in the Weekly tab appears to be unused and could hold the data Air Day, Air Time, Network, of course the Weekly Tab only needs Air Time, and Network. The area just after the Air Date column is blank space/ empty column.
2) Series Tab could highlight current episode, or similar to Weekly Tab it could highlight Past, Present, & Future thus all previous episodes, seasons could be ignored since all would be red.
3) Currently EpCheck opens in the Series Tab, an option to open in the Weekly Tab would be great.
4) Minimize until update complete would also be a great option, as would start Minimized.
5) Default color code could change to RED = Past Green = Today Blue = Future this follows the light spectrum roughly, and green = go of course. (I have changed using options already, just a thought.)-kalvanotherwhen (January 06, 2014, 05:10 PM)
Thank you for your wonderful software.-kalvanotherwhen (January 06, 2014, 05:10 PM)
Re 3 yes and the change never worked it always opens in the Series Tab for me.-kalvanotherwhen (January 06, 2014, 05:24 PM)
re 5 the option worked fine though with version 1.03 it took a while and a restart of the program to display anything I believe it crashed.
Re 3 This has never worked and unchecking and rechecking etc it never worked for me.-kalvanotherwhen (January 06, 2014, 05:49 PM)
Yes, you are correct about that data, and I haven't added it (yet) for two reasons: 1) I haven't decided WHERE to put that data. 2) If I add the network time, it stands to reason that folks will want that time converted to their timezone. To see why I'm hesitant about that, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5wpm-gesOY&feature=player_detailpage-skwire (January 06, 2014, 05:39 PM)

WOW....fantastic! I will never miss a show again. I have been using TVRage to keep track of my favorites but this program is much better.-subtech (January 11, 2014, 10:50 AM)
Possible to get epCheck to record watched shows? It would be nice if you clicked on the episode number it could change it to a color the user sets to indicate seen.-nickodemos (January 14, 2014, 11:35 AM)
Also I noticed that when I have it in maxed view that there is a large blank column after the 'Air Date'. Possible that instead of being blanked out that you could add the episodes summary there? Would be a nice way to see all episodes summaries at a glance in case your trying to find a specific show for another to watch.-nickodemos (January 14, 2014, 11:35 AM)
Not a programmer but I think I can see your point on adding the keeping track of seen shows.-nickodemos (January 14, 2014, 10:12 PM)
I have a small request, it's possible to not make the "Downloading data for: ${show}" dialog be always on top of other windows? It gets in the way of doing other things.-ReX (January 15, 2014, 06:50 AM)

I must say a truly excellent application.. I am not much of an average television watcher. To be honest I despise commercials, so I record all of my series. I have been keeping track writing everything down in a notebook and crossing it off as I finish with each episode. This great little app lets me do all that and more. Keep up the absolutely fantastic work. 8)-ramothgold (January 20, 2014, 12:57 AM)

One request though. Possible to have in the options the ability to download only one image file? I, and others might be as well, am pretty simple when it comes to the image. I am fine with what ever one downloads, just that I went through and deleted all but one image per folder and it reduced the data folder by 90 percent.-nickodemos (January 25, 2014, 11:25 AM)
I just seen that what is watched is in the config.ini. My idea still stands on reverse recording and it can stay in the config.ini.-nickodemos (January 26, 2014, 02:15 PM)

I'm using it with no issues so far. :)-msteph (January 30, 2014, 07:51 PM)
I noticed that on a few occasions that it would take a long time to launch. I am assuming that it is gathering information at this time from the web and updating information about the shows.-nickodemos (January 30, 2014, 08:17 PM)
If you change the setting for 'The' to be at the end it will not update the ones you had added before.-nickodemos (January 31, 2014, 10:19 PM)
Is there a way to add either a second tab for series or maybe have it so that if you right click on the series tab it will switch from "current/ongoing" to a "canceled/catch when I can" tab.-nickodemos (February 01, 2014, 08:35 AM)
Another thought. If people keep using your program to keep track of shows new and canceled it might be nice to have a search functions on the story line.-nickodemos (February 01, 2014, 08:35 AM)
Another edit. Just was looking and thgought about maybe having the # and episode column set to a default minimum so as to be able to always have that information visible. Seen that many times when # hits three digits things get covered.-nickodemos (February 01, 2014, 08:35 AM)
I really appreciate your enthusiasm for epCheck so I hope you're not too disappointed when I tell that most of your requests are somewhat out of scope for what I intended for epCheck. I'll go through your requests...-skwire (February 02, 2014, 04:17 PM)

I found a small bug when adding a series and refreshing one series. Both actions result in the following unzip error:-wjamoe (February 05, 2014, 03:49 PM)
I replaced the 2014-01-15 epcheck.exe version by the 2014-02-04 version..
then I added a new series: Burn notice and refreshed Castle (2009)
both gave the same unzip error, does that help?-wjamoe (February 07, 2014, 02:50 PM)
Good piece of software...-elbooker (February 07, 2014, 04:33 PM)
But, since version 1.1.0.37 I found bug... Try ''500 nations'' series, and I can't see episodes. I think that bug is because that is no air date in culumn ''air date''. Also, in new version 1.1.1 some banner images is not downloaded in my local folder. When I try manualy to put banners image from site, epCheck delete all pictures on new automatic refresh.-elbooker (February 07, 2014, 04:33 PM)

Is it possible to set the default to load the newest shows at the top instead of bottom. With the option you have now to scroll to the bottom it is nice but, it would be nice for me if it just defaulted to the top with the older shows on the bottom. A per person choice.-nickodemos (April 02, 2014, 11:41 AM)
With the new one and having profiles are we going to be bale to switch the shows from one list to another? IE once I finished watching a series and it is cancelled will I be able to movie it from the watch list to the cancelled list?-nickodemos (April 02, 2014, 11:41 AM)

What I meant about a UK version is, The Mentalist for instance is shown as the US channel and time and often ahead of the UK airing.-keithy397 (April 09, 2014, 03:32 PM)
I use the TVDB.com database for epCheck and it typically uses the channel/time of a given series' originating country. In other words, UK-specific data is not there for an American series such as The Mentalist. That is, unless you know how to get UK-specific data out of the TVDB.com. :)Not yet ;)-skwire (April 09, 2014, 03:54 PM)
First of all, thanks for this great app, a big THANK YOU for all of your hard work!-vamiz (April 10, 2014, 12:40 PM)
I've got to say that English is not my native language, so please be patient. ::)-vamiz (April 10, 2014, 12:40 PM)
I have Windows 7 32 and I've been testing epcheck latest version 1.1.3 build 49, and so far so good, everything works as it is supposed to.
I've added, moved, copied and removed a lot of series and every other functions seems to work as intended. :D-vamiz (April 10, 2014, 12:40 PM)
1 - A minor question - I went to "epcheck folder\data" and saw that the folders (numbered) containing the retrieved data (banners and xml files) for some series that I've deleted were still there...-vamiz (April 10, 2014, 12:40 PM)
2 - A bigger question :p lol - would it be possible to expand/collapse seasons? I mean series with lots of eps and/or seasons like, south park, simpsons doctor who and others, will fill up the right pane...-vamiz (April 10, 2014, 12:40 PM)
Found the problem with my 1st question, the reason for the folders not being deleted is that I removed the profile where they were and didn't deleted them first. I assumed that it would automatically delete their content.-vamiz (April 10, 2014, 05:16 PM)
When deleting a profile it leaves a "blank profile" and in folder it leaves one .txt and one .bak file (0kb) . . .-vamiz (April 11, 2014, 10:12 AM)
Also in Build 49 format S01E01 is still showing as s01e01
Several attempts to set it to S01E01 work until shutdown, then display resets to s01e01-kalvanotherwhen (April 15, 2014, 12:44 PM)
Can you give me some examples of series that didn't work?-skwire (April 28, 2014, 11:56 AM)
Can't remember if it was covered but an issue that came up us that I tried adjusting a column and the program had a CPU surge and would not come out of it.-nickodemos (April 28, 2014, 02:14 PM)
Trying to track down a reason why the program sometimes "whites" out all information. All text is just gone even though nothing has changed. I just delete the config file and all is right again.-nickodemos (April 28, 2014, 02:14 PM)
Those all worked for me. However, this setting might need a little explanation. It only works on series when they are added (and that option is enabled). That is, it doesn't go back and change up the list after the fact. Perhaps this is what you're experiencing?-skwire (April 28, 2014, 01:34 PM)
So I guess there's no way to make it happen now other than deleting and re-adding those series?-J-Mac (April 28, 2014, 09:27 PM)
Disable and release with new fix's. ...-nickodemos (April 03, 2014, 05:31 AM)

Personally I was reluctant to donate as I had myself convinced it would end up in a commercial form
First and foremost, thanks for a great application, really saved me hours of checking for episodes asf. Regardless of whatever minor bugs people talk about, with/out, this is the closest and best solution I've come to managing an ocean of shows I follow, in a very longtime.-Sphinxen (July 20, 2014, 01:23 PM)

Personally I was reluctant to donate as I had myself convinced it would end up in a commercial form, but if your leaving it as is, I'll throw some coins your way, just because of the hours you've saved me fiddling around with retarded websites is rather priceless.-Sphinxen (July 20, 2014, 01:23 PM)
I'm getting some programs on my list show up in the Weekly view but they aren't actually scheduled, at least not in my area. What location is EpCheck pulling the schedule from?-J-Mac (July 28, 2014, 01:05 PM)
PS - Hmm, worse yet when I double click on those entries I am taken to J River Media Center webpage for that show and it says there that the first air date was yesterday - July 27, 2014! I got one little problem with the tabbar-keithy397 (November 12, 2014, 02:29 AM)
Looks like I'm having one problem with the beta - in the Weekly tab, marking new shows as 'viewed' does not stick - closing epCheck and then re-opening finds the shows now unchecked.-msteph (November 12, 2014, 03:56 AM)
Also it looks like previously checked episodes (from v1.1.5.1) become unchecked if I increase the 'number of past days to show' and those shows then become included in the new Weekly view.
Another odd thing: several shows now have their entire history of checkoffs missing from the Series view; others still show the checks I had previously done.-msteph (November 12, 2014, 03:56 AM)
One more: on the Monthly Options, I can only choose 5 or 6 weeks. The changelog says "...configurable to show between four and six weeks."-msteph (November 12, 2014, 04:03 AM)
I got one little problem with the tabbar-keithy397 (November 12, 2014, 02:29 AM)
I've seen this occasionally and is most likely due to the tab control trickery I have to use for the new Options section (to get around an AHK limitation). Does it do it every time for you? I've made a minor change in regards to this in the latest beta. Would you mind downloading and testing again?-skwire (November 12, 2014, 01:12 PM)

4 ... Series and Series Episode "Details" buttons - highlight a series from list, click "Series Details", the details would be something like Starring, From/To Dates, # of eps, etc. Click an episode, "Episode Details" might contain guest stars, etc. Possibly this info could be user created and maintained, stored in a file, the button might bring up the text in the default text editor, maybe something a bit nicer, a nice dialog box with preconfigured fields that are read from a file that the user will maintain and edit with a specified layout :-\-Mike.S (November 18, 2014, 11:11 AM)

I am running as an administrator, so is this a serious issue?
So I came over here and found 1.1.5.163 and that seems to unzip all the data but epCheck does enter into (Not Responding) a half a dozen times or so.-dallas7 (January 13, 2015, 05:06 PM)

The problem is two-fold:
- I use the 7-zip application to handle the unzipping so while it's actually unzipping a file, epCheck can't do anything but wait. However, most of the zips are pretty small so the waits here shouldn't affect things much.
- The bigger issue at hand is that the TVDB.com site has been really slow lately. Most of the Not Responding is epCheck simply waiting for the zip downloads to finish.
It's rather frustrating as there isn't a whole lot that I can do about it. Sadly, the best advice I can give is to simply leave epCheck alone while it's doing the updates.-skwire (January 13, 2015, 06:28 PM)

I have "Request every # of days" set to zero (disabled) and use the “Refresh all series data now” button every couple of weeks or so. Do I understand correctly that though the status bar shows it's checking those long ago ended shows in my "Legacy" profile, their data is not being downloaded again and again? Rather than having to scroll through all of the series to see if the status has changed, a tab showing a list of all of the series and the status might be be a useful feature to catch shows that were reportedly being ended but then revived (i.e. Unforgettable and Perception). It might not be 100% effective but would save having to scroll through all of the series after a refresh to see if anything has changed. Dennis Leary's new series "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll" (yes, all one string) is posted up at TheTVDB and lists the first ep on July 18. Doing an epCheck search finds a multitude of shows about, ahem, cough cough... sex. But not Leary's.
I'm wondering if there's a problem on TheTVDB's side or if epCheck's search is having an issue with one long string of text with three ampersands glommed in?-dallas7 (May 19, 2015, 01:52 AM)
I got stuck on step one in those instructions as one can't add a show if it doesn't show up in the search results for selection thus activating (un-ghosting) the "Add series" button.-dallas7 (May 19, 2015, 03:51 PM)
Small remark tho - not earth shattering or any of the likes - but still something which could be handled more gracefully :
If you have a show with plus 100 episodes a year (e.g. The Daily Show), the moment episode 100 in a season is reached, you start adding a leading zero to the episode display format, but as long as the show is below 100 episodes, you don't. So from S20E99 you jump to S20E0100.-Babbel00 (September 26, 2015, 04:01 PM)

First is a bit of a bug: sometimes when updating shows (refresh data option), refreshing the view on the weekly tab or adding a new show from search, a random amount of ticks disappear from the list of shows marked as watched. It is usually most of them which is not good as it's thousands of checkboxes. Sometimes it will leave one or two checked per show but it is completely random. It's extremely frustrating.-ganymede4 (April 06, 2017, 08:14 AM)

Second is a small feature request: Would it be possible to have an option for the refresh data option to only update shows listed as "continuing". If you're letting epCheck update the data automatically, it should only update the shows that have changed data (according to TheTVDB). So, even if a show is "ended", there's still a chance the data may have been edited. Now, if you go into the Options and choose the "Refresh all series data now" button, it will download each series' data no matter what.-skwire (April 06, 2017, 11:44 PM)

I have a question about TVmaze: how easy/difficult would it be to add as an option to use the TVmaze API? I mean in addition to TVDB, as a selectable option. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's probably not trivial, but I'm interested to know.
The main reason is that often for very recent episodes, TVmaze has the correct info, i.e. ep title and airdate sooner than TVDB. Occasionally it's the other way round but I find I often have to check their website when something doesn't match up.-ganymede4 (October 19, 2019, 02:56 PM)

This a bit disjointed to explain, so let me preface it a bit:
- I'm not a huge fan of most web-browser based interfaces. Some are awesome, though.
- I like to think that I have a decent knack for desktop interface design.
- I enjoy working with standard REST/SOAP APIs such as TVDB, OMDB, ChartLyrics, Subsonic, etc. Most of these APIs return data in XML or JSON format -- I can easily work with either.
- I enjoy making desktop apps for said APIs (frontends, basically). A lot of the programs I've written are exactly this type of application. Ask mouser...I have something of a listview fetish. :P
-skwire (October 19, 2019, 04:20 PM)
So, that said, working with the TVmaze API wouldn't be any easier or harder than working with the TVDB API. It's a matter of figuring out the particular endpoints you need for the data you want. However, it gets tricky when you want to combine multiple APIs into one interface. Namely:
- You have to put up with the extra time it takes to query multiple websites. This is more time-consuming than you might think. Something as simple as adding a show becomes more complex. Multiple searches for the show name, multiple user confirmations, and, now, multiple show IDs to deal with for a single show. Because the show IDs are not going to match between sites, you basically have to maintain separate sets of data for each API you're dealing with. It gets to be a clusterf@#$ really quickly.
- You have to put up with potential API changes on multiple fronts now.
- What if one (or more) of the sites is down?
- What if one (or more) of the sites goes down permanently?
- Which database's information takes precedence for a given field?
- I often pay out of my own pocket for premium API access in order to make my apps better for the end user. Faster API response times, more allowed API hits per day, access to more data, etc. While I'm gainfully employed and writing freeware is a hobby, this type of investment is not insignificant. Think hundreds of dollars per year across all the apps I've written that use APIs. (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/esmileys/gen3/1Small/char042.gif) More APIs can mean more costs.
Indeed, all of this can be dealt with, but, as you can imagine, it can be a bit of a hot mess at times. I really hope some of the above helps to clarify things.-skwire (October 19, 2019, 04:20 PM)
Bonus question: Have you ever considered open sourcing the project to Github or similar?-ganymede4 (October 19, 2019, 02:56 PM)
Nope. There's really no voodoo or magic going on here. It's simple API calls and munging the returned text into an interface.-skwire (October 19, 2019, 04:20 PM)
