Pure speculation on my behalf...(and i'm not bashing Firefox)
After bouncing around various mozilla sites...
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/
http://www.mozillazine.org/
I find 1.07 still being pushed.Yes you can click around 1.5 is not hard to find, but the enthusiasm doesn't
seem to be with 1.5.I check the forum at mozillazine and their are all sorts of complaints of memory bloat
and compatibility issus with flash and adblock, etc.(Mozilla developers need to rethink it's extension compatibility
as apposed to developers of extension rewriting their stuff after new releases, imho.I'm waiting on a 1.5.1 i
guess is what i'm saying, any others doing the same?
I've actually cuddled up with Opera's browser during my wait, and after a month of kicking it around it has started
to grow on me.The way it handles bookmarks needs work(lord, how i miss right clicking from the bookmarks dropdown menu in Firefox.

I'm still using 1.0.7 because I'm using lots of extensions and I want to give all the coders a bit more time to update/check their code before I'll update to 1.5.
I did use 1.5 on a friend's PC (with only a few extensions installed) and there were no problems at all.

There's some discussion here about mixed results with 1.5:

I am using 1.5 and have fewer issues than I had with 1.0.7. I found the previous version hung, and tended to crash when I have my ATI AIW TV Window open. It doesn't seem to happen in 1.5
For me at least it also seems a little faster - but that may simply be a result of having reinstalled Windows recently.
I held off for a while until all of the extension I support had been updated. Now that they have everything seems to work fine.
-
Most people who are sticking with 1.07 and pushing it iinstead of 1.5 are doing it because of what BrotherS has alluded to...they have extensions that will not work with 1.5.
I had a few that wouldn't work, but easily found replacements for the few that didn't work.

heh,i knew i was on to something :-\
Felt it in my bones.
Just read this over at the http://www.thehotfix.net/

work has begun on 1.5.0.1, which is due for a late January 2006 release. This release would consist of security fixes, including the one found recently (Secunia), bug fixes, top crashers, and the like. It's also expected that there will be a Firefox 1.0.8, Mozilla 1.7.13, and possibly a Thunderbird 1.0.8 release at this time.

tinyvillager,
Don't know what you were on to exactly, though...nearly all software has bugs & there will always be bugfixes until a program is abandoned.
-
My intentions (speculations) was not to spread fud,i agree there is no such thing as bugless software. But i visit
a lot of forums and every where i go enthusiasm for 1.5 has dropped off.In short, any step away from IE is a
step in the right direction.Though who knows,Microsoft might shock us with their next release and if they do
i cuddle with with Microsoft,i'll go where the quality is.It's actually a shame there is only a handfull of browsers
to check out.But yeah, don't get the ideal i'm spreading fud about firefox.
-
Yes, Microsoft isn't sitting idly by and letting this happen. You can bet they are going to look closely at what has made Firefox popular (other than it being open-source), and emulate those things in IE 7. In fact, IE 7 beta already has tabbed browsing and a download manager (I think).
Opera is good, if it would just render pages like IE and Mozilla do. They (OperaSoftware) are so concerned about W3C standards that they miss the bigger picture -- IE compatible rendering is the real standard. Opera is definitely fast and has better font and image rendering (somehow). Its lack of a good plug-in/extension architecture is a big disadvantage though. I've come to love the extension support of Firefox.

If it is the same as the tab browsing kludge they added via their MSN toolbar it won't worth the wait !

Microsoft based discussion had been moved to https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=1851.0 - please reply there, thanks.

Ho humm... fox 1.5 seems faster than 1.07, but it's still a bloated pig. Opera feels better, but has issues with my java-based webbank and rendering on some sites. I'm back to running fox 1.5 though, scrapbook and adblock are features I really miss in Opera.
So, well, I'm running firefox 1.5. Just wish they would get their damn act together and fix up the speed and memory hogging issues.

I agree that Firefox is a large program that isn't particularly fast and clearly has a problem with memory management.
I hope the highly intelligent people who have donated so much time to Firefox so that we can use it for free will be able to resolve these issues. I thank them for their efforts to date.

Another very interesting discussion of stability and memory problems with V1.5. Apparently affecting a relatively small, but still significant, number of users. Written by an industry guru, includes feedback from Mozilla.
