Virtually all laptops have this - why not desktop PCs?
I'm currently using GammaPanel (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2796.html) but it doesn't support hotkey controls.
Maybe something with a gamma control or just brightness & contrast would be nice.
-
Right on the page you linked to, it says:
Thanks to its hot-key feature, you don't even have to leave the game you're playing!
Is this incorrect? The screen shot shows a hotkey feature.
-
Sorry - I should re-phrase that.
GammaPanel needs 1 hotkey defined per setting. 5 settings = 5 hotkeys. 10 gradual settings = ...wel you get the idea :)
Wouldn't it be better to have just 2 hotkeys for incremental +10% and -10% settings?
Maybe even have an option to set how many % to increase/decrease by as well.
-
I can see why they designed GammaPanel that way, since it controls more than just brightness.
Could you use GammaPanel to create a series of hotkeys that increase/decrease brightness, but that are still easy to use and remember, such as Ctrl+Num0, Ctrl+Num1, Ctrl+Num2, and so on, or Ctrl+F1, Ctrl+F2, Ctrl+F3, and so on? Not ideal for you I guess; I'm just trying to help.

geektechnu, have you tried emailing the author -
your feature request sounds very reasonable, an i'm just guessing it's the kind of idea an author would love to hear about and implement.
-
have you tried emailing the author
I'd like to, but the homepage leads to an "Access Forbidden" error page.
The email link on this page has no address
-
Hi all! This is the author of Gamma Panel :)
The incremental hot-key feature is on my list of features for the next release. I don't when it is going to be released - I'm very busy finishing my studies at the moment.
As far as my website goes - it went down about a week or two ago and I can't do anything at the moment - no time to contact the people who offered me hosting. I hope to fix it next month if I have enough time. The email is working and I hope that it will stay that way ;)
Cheers,
Tomek

The Resident Googler strikes again! I hunted him down and shot him an email (actually two emails, at two different addresses; hopefully only one made it).
Thanks for responding so quickly, Tomek!
Geektechnu, Tomek's email address is in his profile. And it's one of the addresses I used. :)

Thanks Mouser!
-
our pleasure; if any other freeware authors find themselves in similar situation we'd be happy to help out.
by the way, gamma panel looks awesome, i think laptop users in particular might really want to check it out.
-
What a guy mouser is! Yeah Gamma Panel seems like it would be great for 3D games, especially for people like me who can't stand how dark they sometimes are.
-
don't you alter the gamma level in the individual games, Scott?
-
Yeah I do, I guess I was just trying to think of a reason to use Gamma Panel... :o

Individual RGB settings make it great for handling different color temperatures.
Personally, I use it to correct the color accuracy of my LCD screen using the contrast sliders.
I have a few settings that range from daylight use through to night use (with 50% brightness + 0.5 contrast for use with the lights out).
Maybe hotkeys to cycle frowards and backwards through the presets would work well.
