It is nice, I've got Portable Nvu [http://portableapps.com/apps/development/web_editors/portable_nvu (http://portableapps.com/apps/development/web_editors/portable_nvu)] on my USB stick so I can use it at work!

I thought Nvu saved things in the Registry.  As you have a portable version, and it's cross-platform, that must not be true?

I wonder if it works now. Last time I tried it, you could'nt switch back from the preview tab. In fact you couldn't switch back to anything, nor click any button. And that was the 1.0 release, ready for production. It put me off a bit.

Nowadays I leave the web design to people who know more about it than me. Then I take their mess results and make it standards compliant by hand. After that I feed it to my cms...

I think nvu is a cool thing though, because it works on linux. People should try and see if this isn't enough for what they need to do. No need to buy expensive software :-)

The people over at http://portableapps.com/ (http://portableapps.com/) have done a pretty nice job with their offerings. I had an issue with ThunderBird still writing to the Registry, but not with Nvu.

I got to say that PortableApps is a boon when you have to deal with StormTrooper IT people (God love them!)

Nvu used to be a little funky a few years ago but it's really quite nice now. Highly recommended for the beginning and intermediate non-notepad web designer.

Probably not, lol. But it seems like that's overrated considering there are still often big rendering differences between browsers.

Yeah,... I'm just thinking of a bright future, where, some day, browsers use the standard, render everything in the same way, and don't accept 'bad' html.

- Back to reality,- however,... I'll have to accept the fact that *HTML is hopelessly broken for now. :P

I figure it's something they put in the food at IT school  ;)

The only PortableApp I had trouble with was ThunderBird, the rest work a treat.
