I wanted Firefox 4 in 64 bit, just like the rest of my system (except that bloody skype), so I dug and poked and found (http://nrrd.de/content/firefox-4-rc-64-bit) what I was looking for.

Basically I took the actual download URL and hoped the mirror server would let me browse its directory listings, where I then found the archive.

Awesome!
Thanks, I'll be trying this out later tonight.

The same approach should work for the final release. Which should be done RSN!

So far, it looks ok.
None of my extensions work, but that's to be expected.
Strange to have the tabs on top of the nav bar, but that's easily fixed in the "view" menu.

Cool.
Can't wait for the final.

Most of my extensions work, only a few releated to SSL checks did not - but they hadn't been updated in years anyway.

Most importantly, vimperator (http://vimperator.org/) works flawlessly, as do adblock plus (http://adblockplus.org/) and noscript (http://noscript.net/) :)

I personally like that - and it makes sense, really. The location of a tab sorta belongs to the location, and not the other way around :)

I can see your point, but habit is a ruthless master...  :'(

Now, if I can only figure out why 64-bit Flash isn't working with this version.

Indeed - I'm usually not too happy about change myself, but this is a change I like :)
