Title: caffeine free week - who wants to join me?
Post by: mouser on January 18, 2006, 05:02 PM
i've decided it's time for a week of decaffination - no tea/coffee/soda with caffeine for 7 days, starting monday 1/23/06 JANUARY 23rd, 2006.
who wants to join me?

I'm with you - but please use a sane date format :) (YYYY/MM/DD or DD/MM/YYYY - MM/DD/YY is just whack :P )

I guess i'm with you too, since i don't like coffe/tea :P

ps: i agree with the thing about the date...How come do people use that type of date? It just doesn't make sense..  >:(

Darn straight!!
:guns fire:

I only go caffeine free when forced by location or circumstance. Without it, I get a headache that would bring down an elephant. Some folks say that's why I should quit. BAH!

Just done it for the last two weeks, and today drank my first caffeine again! Actually from now on I am only drinking caffeine products in the morning. I have found I sleep better and don't look in the mirror and scream as much in the mornings ...

Good luck with the shakes over the next few days - try alcohol it masks the withdrawl symptoms [hic]

I went without caffeine for 6 months once...  It didn't make me feel better.

I'm back to a regular routine of Dr. Pepper starting ~ 9 AM.  I try not to have anything w/ caffeine after 5 PM.

If it works out for you guys, you might convince me to try again... or not  ;D

wishing you well in your efforts, Mouser.  Want to tell us why you made this decision?

I read that anyone suffering from symptoms we usually associate with caffeine should also look at their intake of the far more dangerous drug, aspartame, which is found in virtually all diet soft drinks and many other products.   It's only becoming known recently how very addicting -- and neurologically dangerous -- aspartame is.  Also very insidious, because it's not always mentioned on the label.

Check out these toxicity symptoms (and if you want to read more, stay away from the information provided by junk food industry PR organizations):

dizziness
shaking hands and other tremors
migraines and severe headaches (common from chronic use)
rapid heart beat, tachycardia (another frequent reaction)
slurring of speech
memory loss
confusion
numbness or tingling of extremities
chronic fatigue
depression
insomnia
irritability
panic attacks (common aspartame toxicity reaction)
marked personality changes
phobias
asthma
chest pains
hypertension (high blood pressure)
nausea or vomitting
diarrhea
abdominal pain
swallowing pain
itching
hives / urticaria
other allergic reactions
blood sugar control problems (e.g., hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia)
menstrual cramps and other menstrual problems or changes
impotency and sexual problems
food cravings
weight gain
hair loss / baldness or thinning of hair
burning urination & other urination problems
excessive thirst or excessive hunger
bloating, edema (fluid retention)
infection susceptibility
joint pain

sounds like aspartame is the cause of all of the world's ills.
ok no aspartame for 1 week as well.

I also *didn't* consume anything addictive in a daily basis...
It seems those days are gone ;)

want to be alert during the dark hours without using caffeine - try blue light (found on digg.com)

cool thing about blue light.

by the way i have been drinking tea but have been off diet caffinated soda pretty much since this post (a month), and i do feel noticably less 'jumpy'.

I certainly know that the British SAS use blue light for any close quarters illumination, both for the alertness it brings and because the short wave-length light doesn't travel distance perceivably well to the naked eye, ensuring the enemy is 'kept in the dark'.

Frankly I'll stick with caffeine.  I have to say that I would have loved to participate in this challenge but caffeine is definitely my 'crack'.  Even the simple though of going without it for an hour is too much.  ;D

Cant live without my coffee, but dont drink tea or CocaCola and stuff. How about joining me in my one-year-totally-free-of-alcohol instead?   ;D I´ve done 10 months now, will be done april 24th.....guess who´s having a beer that day?

Caffeine free is good. I've been living on theine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theine) for a long time, so I don't have a problem with that :D
