Because we have a few on this board; because I personally love *nix; and even though this handbook is ten years old (read the chapter on X-windows, yipes! How did we EVER get from this to KDE?) it is still the funniest read I've had in a long time.
And the funniest part is where it's linked from...

X has had its share of $5,000 toilet seats—like Sun’s Open Look clock
tool, which gobbles up 1.4 megabytes of real memory! If you sacrificed all
the RAM from 22 Commodore 64s to clock tool, it still wouldn’t have
enough to tell you the time. Even the vanilla X11R4 “xclock” utility consumes
656K to run. And X’s memory usage is increasing.

Ha ha ha ... how much does Vista require just to install ???

Actually I just checked my WinXP box and winlogon uses nearl 4Mb of memory alone!

The MS Alarm Clock Plugin for WMP uses over 2Mb of memory when running with no alarms set (and that isn't even a clock!).

Thats quite a long read! The PDF has 360 pages. I think I'll tackle it one chapter at a time; have so much other things to read as well.

my clock proggie is currently using about 6mb ram.  :-[

Remember this was 10 years ago when Win95 was still the newest kid on the block and 64 megs of RAM was a Grail of sorts...
I have Slackware on a 150 MHz 64MB RAM machine at home (workshop test box) running XFCE Window manager. 24-bit true color and alphamapped png icons, the whole banana; smooth as butter on a bald monkey. (KDE would really push it though...)
