Title: How to extract icon of a folder?
Post by: sri on August 17, 2008, 10:39 PM
I found several software that extracts icons from dlls and exes, but none that would extract an icon of a specified folder itself. I want to get the .ico file of a specific folder. Any ideas? I have already looked in %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll and it's not in there.

I would like to know two, preferably with a code sample so that I can incorporate in into Circle Dock. However, the extracted icon will be a maximum of 126x126 in size which might not look good blown up. I can extract icons for all regular files and folders but I can't get the thumbnail preview icon of a folder.

Icons from File (http://www.vlsoftware.net/exico/index.html) (freeware).

Drag the folder in question into the "Icons from File" window and then either copy the icon or save to file.
