I have two targets :
1. This sunday I need to walk and don't get lost.
I have no data in my mobile so I don't know how to use a GPS without a sim card . Only the device and free.
Have I to buy a GPS device like tomtom , garmin ..... ?
2. A document generator like docmosis (https://www.docmosis.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwvYSEBhDjARIsAJMn0lgNoCyQRE-xOeyN2X0ad_XbouuEwEityWu0AlDEdJb94XdJhie2XSMaAhCPEALw_wcB) is really necessary ? I think many of these things may be done with microsoft word, but not in the easiest way. So I would like to get a set of tools for doing this.
Best Regards
Note : I usually need to make a word file with some fields in it. Also insert a document as a part of the main document. Links and subdocuments and so on. Finally I need to print to pdf everything. Even from Autocad.

Have you ever heard of the ancient artefact that us older folks call: "A Map"?

Only good if you know how to find yourself on it, which, oddly enough, most people don't these days.
@contro: Any app that can use offline map data, this includes Google Maps.
Google Maps->Menu->Offline Maps->Select Your Own Map->Select the area->Download.
Most other offline map apps will use OpenStreetMaps.

Yes I did, but I prefer a GPS offline where I can upload a wikiloc route.

I am doing that everyday in my works. Mostly I take a screenshot
But I need something more interactive.
Controlling the route and the duration. Meters done and so on.
WikiLoc https://es.wikiloc.com/

Trying to help in the 2. point
M2Doc https://www.m2doc.org/
Exwog https://exwog.com/
I think Exwog is perfectly free.
I am not sure about M2Doc
Anyone in this forum use this type of software ?????

In the 1. target
I may be able to upload a route like in wikiloc
https://es.wikiloc.com/
When I use the GPS of my mobile I must be able to recognize the route and obtain additional data with no internet connection.
:)

Go way back more in time or a different story. Hansel and Gretel, Breadcrumbs :D
That method still works to not get lost.

I do not exactly how you translate that in english but i try:
For dogs and cats that have access to open land, there was invented a small gps tracking device plus software for pc to map everything.
Also a bicycle thief protection, same feature, exists.
All are same, small gps devices that either save track or send directly track to satellites.
In addition to that: Android GPS Tracking (https://famisafe.wondershare.com/mobile-tracker/best-android-gps-tracking-apps.html)
No Internet = No GPS at all AFAIK.
(then it is only possible with a string that you lay out and measure how long it is afterwards)

With a little more research I did found this link. (https://www.skyneel.com/use-gps-without-internet-connection-in-android-mobile)
Check it out if that is possible with your devive and you are good to go.

Contro do you have "Here We Go" maps installed? This app downloads the maps ahead of time. I do not know if it has Canary Islands however I can verify that the app works well. I have a couple of phones with no sim card and the maps work great. Very handy if you are "away from the grid" or if you are in a huge crowd and everyone else got all the cell connections before you. :D

The point is that wikiloc is the web I know for walking routes.
But I will try this also.

Aren't you glad there is no Windows Phone anymore? Mine came with off-line maps already build in. And could use cellular masts to do a "poor man's GPS" triangulating position. Used it in this city myself (on foot), some 4 years ago, maybe 5 by now.
-
At the present moment I am not clear how I can do the offline use of my GPS.
:(

The trascendental question is If I can use offline wikiloc
Trying to see if exist an app for this purpose and I can download a offline map to see without internet connection.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand
Osmand is good for roaming around using offline maps and it allows import of gpx and klm tracks
Worked well for me lots of times wandering around unfamiliar cities in Vietnam

Same as Android's Low Accuracy Location mode - it will use mobile and WiFi networks for location, (and lower battery drain), when GPS is turned off or there's no signal.
However, it is very inaccurate if you don't have reception from at least three towers, (pretty much how GPS is useless without 3 satellite signals on cold start).
And technically it's trilateration :)
A bit more trivia:
Triangulation would require two receivers at two different locations, (or one receiver moved between two locations), because it uses angles to get the distance from the towers.
Trilateration only requires one receiver at one location but uses three transmitters. It uses the broadcast transmitter position along with signal strength, where the transmitter radio spheres intersect is your location.
If you've ever logged your GPS track and lost GPS coverage but still have mobile coverage from one tower, you'll see that the track will sometimes jump to the location of the tower.

I like initially this app very much.
but at the present moment I don't know how to upload a GPX route .
That's is the important question.
With google maps I can have offline maps for 24 hours. but the real thing is upload a route I can follow.
With Komoot and others (lika wikiloc) i can create my own routes . But I repeat that the interesting question is import , upload a route from the exterior in GPX format or similar.
Upload, by example, a route in wikiloc . I can download in my laptop or pc. So I need to be able to upload in any android app........
-
Contro,
try downloading a track from wikiloc using gpx format. Then when asked about opening file, you would choose osmand to open it. I just tried it - worked easily.
Alternatively, google search:how to open gpx in osmand. You should see:
Download the GPX fils on your "Download" folder of your handset. You can also copy paste them on Android --> data --> net. osmand --> files --> tracks --> import folder. Go to Menu --> Configure Map --> GPX Track (Turn it on) and it will show all the GPX tracks that are in the Tracks folder on your handset.
-
I find Osmand a little slow for navigation, (probably not a problem for walking).
Another alternative:
- Install Maps.me (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapswithme.maps.pro)
- Go to Wikiloc and download your track in KML format, (Google Earth)
- When it's downloaded, go to files, hold your finger on it, and choose to open it with Maps.me
- Maps.me will load it and save under bookmarks, (the star in the menu strip)
- Open bookmarks and select it, Maps.me will display it and automatically download the required map area
-
Trying everything.
Another way of interaction that can not fail is :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orux.oruxmapsIGN
Any government page may serve. Covering the world better.
With the two features
Download maps for using offline
charge a track in the offline map
Another simple option :
Use a offline map with a track in paper or in a pdf to follow.
A good map fromo Google Earth may serve.
Any good goverment page from USA ? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D (not possible ....)
