All winners are now being notified by email to their forum email address.  If you haven't received an email but your name is listed above, check spam filters and forum email address, and then mail [email protected] and let us know you never got any mail.  It can take a few days for companies to send you your serial number; if a few days pass and you haven't received it - send a reminder to the company email as noted in your winning notification email, or to us by replying to the email you received or to us directly.

Note: We give away things a little unusually here on DC -- we ask that people rate the items in terms of how much they want each one, and then use an optimization tool to try to assign them to maximize happiness.  For this drawing we are also going to be a little bit manually selective for certain prizes such as the $1000+ Optimus Maximum keyboard and the Coding Hours prizes, to try to put them in the hands of people who have the best use for them -- so do fill out the comments area if you are interested in winning these.

A huge thanks to those people and companies who donated stuff for us to give away and volunteered their time.  A special thanks to DC member cthorpe for rounding up so many of these!

Congratulations to everyone who won! (remember those who didnt will have a better chance of winning in the next giveaway).
Title: Re: 2011 Fundraiser Giveaway Extravaganza is Now Open For Entries - Deadline Apr 1st
Post by: mouser on March 29, 2011, 01:52 AM
We can discuss some of the more unusual items on this thread if people have any questions.

One thing to mention is the Optimus Maximus keyboard is an amazing thing -- but it's probably not well suited for an everyday keyboard -- so i think we should probably try to put it in someone's hands that has a special use for it.  also i'm told that one of the customizable keys (the PrtScr key) may not light up.

The coding hours prizes -- im volunteering some time and so is skwire; if other people are willing to volunteer time as well we will pick more winners.  We will choose ideas that are within our areas of expertise and that we think we can make a useful contribution to.  The code will be for the winner to do with as they please -- though we may give precedence to people who plan to share it freely.

The mugs are very good. I happen to own a few ultra-rare superlimited items of the "c-base special edition".

If you are in Berlin, Germany, and willing to show some appreciation for both Donationcoder and c-base, I think we could arrange for a transfer of one of these high-value collector's items :D

The mugs are also very large, which is perfect for heavy tea drinkers (guzzlers) like me; will work for coffee as well.

Post by: mouser on April 03, 2011, 02:31 AM
Ok i'm about to post the winners.

I actually had to revamp and improve my prize optimizer (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=1684.0) for this giveaway since there were so many entries and some weird conditions about some things being hard to ship to some places, etc.  I challenge you to find any other site that works so hard to give the right prizes to the right people to maximize happiness :)

110% in my case  ;D

Thanks mouser!

Fabulous!

As a lucky winner I have to admire the selection formulae  ;D

I'm bowled over by the number of prizes, and the generosity of those who donated them, and the efforts of those who coordinated it all. Profound thanks for all of this!  :up:

To be honest, just being a member of DonationCoder is prize enough, in and of itself. Surely all who enjoy this place can consider themselves winners.

A *huge* thanks to our own DC member Carl Thorpe (cthorpe), who arranged all of the software giveaways, and was the one who insisted we try to get software to give away -- if not for him there would be no software giveaway at all.

And of course thank you again to all of the companies who gave us software to give away, and the anonymous donor of the optimus to give away.  Thank you for your generosity.

This is like winning the lottery!

Several years ago I started studying biblical texts in Ancient Greek. As time went by I lost my motivation because I could never remember where each key was placed on my computer's keyboard. I never learned to blind-type in visible Latin, so to do it in invisible Ancient Greek became too difficult a task for me.

Now I've won the Optimus Maximus keyboard which has key images including several languages, also Ancient Greek. Each key does not have a letter painted but is showing an image of a letter: meaning that when the user wants to use another language, he can simply click a button and voila! the keyboard is showing a different typeset! This is so awesome, I didn't even know it was possible! Study, I am back on track!

Thanks a lot, mouser and Carl!  :Thmbsup:

Congratulations to the winners!
I am impressed with the Prize optimiser. What a great piece of software!. The only lack it has is that it can not make coffee (or maybe it can make it too…).

Thanks mouser, cthorpe for your work and to everybody of this site and software donators. On behalf of a winner of some old draws and a Process Tamer’s user.

It was my birthday a couple of days ago so I will consider Notezilla as a birthday gift.

I think that this software is the best of its category and I will certainly make good use of it.  :Thmbsup:

@Cranioscopical:
Thank you...you are awesome :)

But are you nuts? I'm on diet right now...Anyone wants to win the cake? Mouser will organize a big cake giveaway drawing...Join NOW!  ;D

@Josh:
A lie? Why is that? Sometimes you are a pure source of usefullnes (e.g. when you recommend myBase which i immediately purchased when i tried it after your suggestion on the forum) and sometimes you are a pure riddle for me. :)

@Chisaku:
WONDERFUL drawing! You are an artist. Together with Nudone our DC Art-Studio! :)

@Mouser:
I think we need to dump that Nany-Mug stuff for prizes. I'd prefer a Cody metallic figurine for Nany 2011 in the style of Chisakus (Cody on a pedestal). I'd pay for one if i can get one of this (if not for Nany) with engraved "For my best friend JoTo" on the pedestal.

I want something Cody-esque for myself. A plushie or a figurine. One of this. Main point, something in 3D what i can put on my desk, get in hand and feel it. And i want it NOW! *JoTo shows mouser his madest and forcible face" Move your a... errrr....i mean: May you so kind to organize something? Thank you! :)

Greetings

@Josh:
A lie? Why is that? Sometimes you are a pure source of usefullnes (e.g. when you recommend myBase which i immediately purchased when i tried it after your suggestion on the forum) and sometimes you are a pure riddle for me.

From Urban Dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=the+cake+is+a+lie):
Roughly translates to "your promised reward is merely a fictitious motivator".
Popularized by the game "Portal" (found on Half-Life 2's "Orange Box" game release for PC, X-Box 360, and PS3).
During the game, an electronic voice encourages you to solve intricate puzzles using cake as a motivating perk.
When you have "broken out" of the game's initial testing phase (from threat of death), you find scrawls on walls of the innards of the testing center warning you that "the cake is a lie".

P.S. Call me weird, but I'm actually a bit relieved that I didn't win anything.
So, in a way, I won exactly what I wanted!
WOOHOO!! Thanks guys!!

-okay. You were running XP back in August 2010 (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=22788.msg216134#msg216134), and apparently still are, but already in September 2008 BC3 had some bug fixed for NT4 and Win9x (!), so I would be very surprised if BC3 doesn't work on XP.

But of course we should have a giveaway for some 64-bits Win 7 with 16GB RAM. OF COURSE!!!

But it seems that I scarred myself too early and cranioscopical informed me via PM that "Beyond Compare 3.2.4 on WinXP Sp3 32-bit" works correctly.

It's appreciated.

fenixproductions, have a look at the Beyond Compare System Requirements (http://www.scootersoftware.com/moreinfo.php?zz=kb_require), and more specifically the Supported Windows Platforms (http://www.scootersoftware.com/moreinfo.php?zz=kb_windows). Although the page is a bit confusing at first, I believe you can interpret it as all versions having been tested to support the stuff at the top, and as later versions have come out the newer operating systems from Redmond have also become officially supported. (And not that only Windows 7 is supported in recent versions, which would be a rather silly business decision with Vista at the least still being in active support from Microsoft.)

Thank you mouser for running the fundraiser and giveaway.  Thank you Carl for your work to arrange and obtain the software prizes.  Thank you Actual Tools (and the other prize donators) for donating prizes.  Also, thank you to the DonationCoder community.

I've just received my key and I must say: works perfectly well on WinXP. I've played with it for short time only but already decided to throw WinMerge away (at home at least). Reason? Comparison of different file types (i.e. docx vs. pdf).

Thank you very much DC

Neverending -wheeeee...!-

If I had a gigantic statue of Cody, I would be doing just this: (see attachment in previous post (https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=26211.msg244088#msg244088))
That is an incredible drawing! Did you do it yourself? Are you an artist? Do you have a website? :)

I rarely win anywhere and now this cup for me was a perfect match (it was, if I remember right, only item I was "asking for"). Thank you so much!

EDIT: Cup arrived today (in one piece!). Whooa, what a great cup for my morning coffee! I feel so happy now. :)

Have any of the other people that won Genie Timeline Professional received an email with the app/info from the company? After I didn't get an email from them for a couple days, I emailed the contact person listed in the DC email almost a week ago and never received a response. I emailed Carl last night, so hopefully he'll get back to me. :)

It seems there have been issues with getting the genie registrations.  My contact should be emailing me the serials soon so I can send them out to you.  I apologize for the delay.

Hi,

I didn't get my Genie serial for a few days.  So I eventually emailed Carl and the company sent it to me about a day later.  Thanks Genie and Carl!

My Optimus Maximus keyboard prize arrived two minutes ago; I haven't had a chance to unwrap it yet. I'm just posting to tell how excited I am - especially because I have been so worried about what the tax guys would say. The rather unexpected but thrilling good news is, they didn't charge me a dime!!

No surprise: it is rather hard to believe such expensive keyboard exists. Not to mention someone actually buying it and giving away across the world :)

thanks timns, it's perfect

for those interested in the back story/request, basically that's me on the trampoline with my kids playing one of their favourite games 'woompah', where i just do my biggest jump to bounce them as high as i can, usually without twiggles' help  :D

I found that firing mine from a cannon used to provide a few minutes peace — they always found their way home though  :(

Nice job timns!

-but UPS did! I feel it a little strange, but when I asked the UPS driver/delivery man about the cost, he said there was no bill. Well, he was right, he didn't say it was free, just that there was no bill - yet. But I mis-interpreted his words, thinking it would be free  as in free beer... Today the bill came, not from any tax office, but from UPS itself: $70. More than a dime, but still a fantastic bargain. I am most grateful.

Problem with those is that you'd ideally want three of them** - like in the picture...
