IrfanPaint - a painting plug-in for IrfanView
« on: September 11, 2007, 09:58 PM »
IrfanPaint is a freeware plug-in that adds painting features to IrfanView. It is being developed by Matteo Italia (in collaboration with Irfan Skiljan). This plugin requires a modified IrfanView exe (that is included with the plugin) "since it must include a call to the dll of the plugin". I just renamed the original exe and extracted the zip-file and it works well so far, given the case that it is still in beta..

btw, to invoke the plug-in, load an image in IrfanView and press F12.

This is an absolutely essential plugin for all people who have been ordered by the courts to never install any of the 99,999 standalone paint programs.   ;D

Wow - I sense that this is a bigger deal than it appears at first flush. Giving painting capabilities to IrfanView will mean that many people truly do not need to install anything else. I haven't had IrfanView installed in a long time, but this is worth checking out - thanks for pointing it out to us, Lanux

I think online webapps are good competition for simple image editing in most cases. I heard good things about http://www.fauxto.com/ for example.

Thanks justice - that looks interesting. I've not really gotten into online apps yet, I guess I'm a bit old-school and a) remember what a disaster they were ten years ago and b) still get ulcers thinking about security!

I took a look at the web page. It appears that you need a specially-modified version of IrfanView, which is supplied only in Italian.

With so many drawing features being incorporated in screenshot makers and their integrated editors, I find it unlikely that the IrfanView paint plugin will compete anytime soon. In fact, I never open my IrfanView anymore. I am only keeping it because I quite often will use the BAxBEx DLL plugin for IrfanView - this is by far the fastest way I have found, to convert a picture. Today other apps are offering the same feaure, but none with so many formats as the BAxBEx + IrfanView combination.

The BAxBEx plugin, IrfanView ShellExtension (scroll all down), has not been updated since 2001, but I have found no need to. It works well.

Great find lanux128   Thank you for sharing  :-*

This is NOT an full paint program but since i use IV already and this
is only an 145kB DLL (75kB UPX) this is nice for making quick an arrow here and an circle there.

It appears that you need a specially-modified version of IrfanView,
That's right, see first post from lanux128
This modified exe is not from  Matteo Italia but from Irfan too. It's a kind of a nightly build and will be in the original IV distribution in future.

which is supplied only in Italian.
NO, IrfanView.exe is in english language by default.
You can put your favorite language.dll into the IV\language folder,
this is what Matteo Italia have done, ....putting his language dll (italian) into the download.
Just rename (or delete) this Languages\Italian.dll.

.

you're welcome, AbteriX.. my reasoning exactly, IrfanView already allows image editing via an external editor.. this DLL would come in handy for some quick edits.. :)

Hmm... interesting. It's been AGES since I had IrfanView installed. I'd forgotten about the ability to have it call an external editor. Still, I think for most people's needs this will make a winning combination.

This is totally cool - I use IV all the time (even for screenshots) and was really missing basic drawing features :)

i've been using FastStone's MaxView http://faststone.org/FSMaxViewDetail.htm for several months now and i've only just realised today that it already has an inbuilt quick editor or 'draw' feature (located under the Edit menu, then select Draw).

i'd say it's yet another reason to give MaxView a try if you an IrfanView user.

The old IrfanPaint 0.4.13.70 doesn't work  with the latest IrfanView 4.51.
Download new IrfanPaint 0.4.13.73 Bin.zip from https://www.4shared.com/s/fMJPdeGa6gm

As far as I know you don't need a separate plugin anymore with current versions of IrfanView. Just hit the F12 key and the appropriate version of Irfanpaint will appear. Come to think of it, this is already the case for at least 3 years or something like that.

While I am not saying that your problem does not exist, it has been solved by updating your current version of IrfanView to the latest (whether you use the 'installed' or 'portable' version). The oldest version I could find on my own system was 4.20 and IrfanView/IrfanPaint were already intertwined back then.
