ShopCV.com -- A Scam or Legitimate?
« on: September 06, 2007, 04:02 PM »
My wife just got a call from a telemarketer who told her about a website (http://www.shopcv.com/) saying it offered deals similar to Costco or Sam's Club but with a lifetime membership fee instead of an annual fee.

The telemarketer then asked for a credit card number for a trial period. I checked out the website and tried to find a review about it to see whether or not it was a scam. All I found was this: http://www.ripoffrep...37/ripoff0137315.htm

Considering the business has (supposedly) been around since 2000, and I only see two negative things about it makes me wonder if it isn't as much as a scam as it looks like. Then again, it's been around since 2000 and the only thing I can find on it is other people in other forums asking the same question I am here.

Is it a scam or is it legitimate? Anyone have any good detective skills or know from personal experience about this site?

A rebuttal from a satisfied customer says:
Although their ink prices may be the same, if not sometimes higher, I find it more convenient to shop on-line than stand in line at the store(s).

So, in other words, their ink cartridges, which are advertised at up to 75% off are sometimes more expensive than at retail but at least it's more convenient than standing in line at a store?  :tellme:

http://web.archive.o...ttp://www.shopcv.com <-- they've been online since 1998
http://www.quantcast.com/shopcv.com <-- they have quite a lot of visits.
http://alexa.com/dat...%2F%2Fwww.shopcv.com <-- but alexa doesn't say so.
I also found a lot of complaints, and their website doens't look like worth a penny at all...
Just my POV, your mileage may vary.

Oh yeah, duh.

I don't know why I didn't do a search on that site for shopcv.com -- It lists a ton!

http://www.ripoffrep...om&Search=Search

Stay far away! And everyone remind everyone who shares your money not to give out credit card info to telemarketers. My wife had her card out and was reading off some numbers before I heard her and snatched it away.  :o

Funny, how a little piece of information can dramatically change your point of view!

For so many years I have seen small files with the alexa name in my Temp folder, and it made me think that alexa sure must be something evil, because I have never even once in my life visited any site that had the name alexa, so how in the world did they end up in my temp folder? No, they sure had to be something evil!

You have changed my point of view, scancode!!

Ha, ha, I'm in the same boat, Curt - I've been suspicious of alexa for a long time and keep getting WinPatrol Plus to tell me what it is. I'm satisfied and then forget all about it. Next time I see it in the list, I freak out and go through the whole process again. I dimly recall their being a virus or a Trojan with a similar name and the probbably explains the knee-jerk reaction I have to it. Happens every time!
