Shortcut hotkeys
« on: August 15, 2007, 08:38 AM »
Two years ago TechRepublic made a list of hotkeys. In their newest mail to their members it seems they really didn't had anything to tell, I guess, so they've re-launched the (.PDF) lists again. I will try to attach them in HotKeys.zip, 786 KB.

  • 98 keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Word 2003
  • 85 keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Excel
  • 80+ keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Outlook
  • 50+keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Outlook Express
  • 50+ keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft PowerPoint
  • 70+ keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Access
  • 200+ keyboard shortcuts for Lotus Notes
  • 90+ keyboard shortcuts for Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 for Windows
  • 100+ keyboard shortcuts for TextPad
  • 70+ keyboard shortcuts for Mozilla Firefox
  • 60 keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
  • 70+ keyboard shortcuts for Apple Mac OS X
  • 50+ keyboard shortcuts for Windows XP

Very handy, Curt. Thanks   .

I had just been looking at things like this recently as I was having a brain phart. I seem to remember that there was a hot key to force Screen Saver NOW (e.g. to blank your screen in a hurry) similar to the "preview" button on the Display Properties page. I still haven't found it - does anyone know??   :tellme:

None that I know of. Fifteen years ago you could use "Pause/Break", but not on XP, I think. Today I use Ctrl+Shift+S, but this hotkey comes from Webshots, not from XP.

isn't there something like that on offer in FARR alpha - Yes there is. [I dont know if it's in current FARR version]
(I seem to be saying that a lot lately - but it's true! -
almost anything you could possibly want is available in FARR these days  :-* )

You may know all this, but,
in case you're not familiar with it Jim:
https://www.donation...r/findrun/index.html
But for the ALPHA,
go to members only area in forum,
then Preview software & theres a thread with a link to FARR_ALPHA download.
Install/unzip. Press break key. Start to type screensaver - the option comes up by the time I've sc.. typed.

Then again, that may not be quick enough for you  :P

I don't get the screensaver option when I type it in my version of FARR (2.00.138). I'm guessing a shortcut under the scripts folder of FARR installation is missing.

Edit: I included the nircmd alias to my custom alias list and voila! I have the screensaver option.

I didn't add anything extra, I do use dcupdater to update plugins as well -
just checked - it's from the nircmd alias plugin - maybe I did add that manually  :-\

apologies it's not a plugin it's an alias

EDIT: here's a link to the addons page for FARR, it's second on the list
https://www.donation...user/findrun/addons/

not sure if it comes by default with the programme :-[

I don't think nircmd alias comes with FARR, tomos. It's a add-on alias, I suppose:-)

I want to add that mouser recommended adding the alias under "FARR/AliasGroups/Installed" folder rather than "FARR/AliasGroups/MyCustom" folder but I don't think it really makes any difference in functionality. The only difference is that you can't make any changes if it's under "Installed".

You're almost right, cemole.
The 2 differences between the installed folder and the mycustom folder are that the aliases under installed are read-only, and can be changed with each update of farr.
So, if you move an alias from installed to mycustom, it won't be updated on farr update, and you'll be able to change stuff.

Also note that currently, the nircmd alias can't be updated throught the DCupdater, but the core aliases can be changed in a farr update.

Thanks Curt. I've got this kicking around somewhere already, but it's great to have copy ready to hand.

re the screensaver shortcut:
with the nircmd/FARR alias,
you could always make a shortcut to the screensaver [nircmd] command/alias on the desktop
& give that a [keyboard] shortcut via its properties box
