New machine connection blues

(1/1)

JennyB:
I finally gave in and got a new XP Media Centre machine to replace the old tractor.

I connected up my USB Broadband Modem, and Plug and Play loaded the Conexant AccessRunner drivers from CD. Then I dialled my broadband account. The modem seemed to be working O.K., sending out packets, but came back with "No Response." I double checked the account details and tried again. Same result. Plugged the modem back into the old machine and fired that up. It connected first time.

What am I doing wrong??

According to a tech support guy on the Internet:

"Make sure that you installed the WAN drivers, NOT
the LAN ones (which are also on the cd-rom)."

If Windows PnP mistakenly installed the LAN driver, go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and manually update it to the WAN one .
