Damn, it's hard to chose 3!!

I think the three that are most used would have to be

Winamp and windows live messenger are always on too, but not used as frequently.
There are others i use everyday during school period, though.

Just 3? Now that's a difficult question to answer, seeing as I always have much more than that running. Well, I'll try to answer anyway I suppose :)

1. Opera - For absolutely all of my browsing and e-mail needs.
2. E Text Editor - Quite possibly the best thing since sliced bread. Text editors doesn't get better than this (on Windows at least).
3. Directory Opus 9 - Don't know how I ever lived without it in the past.

There are of course other applications I use just as much, and I feel kinda bad having to leave them out of such a list :(

wreckedcarzz: since your project is called SimpleStart and it is for "easy starting of commonly used apps", wouldn't it be like Farr or LaunchBar Commander? just wondering.. :)

Seems there's no reason to mention Antivirus, Firewall, Antispyware programs, or Process Tamer!, - so my answer is Outlook 2003, Maxthon 1.6, RealPlayer 11 Beta, and Volumouse, - and PS Tray Factory, PS Hot Folders, True LaunchBar, M8 Clipboard, FastStone Capture + Viewer, and Process Explorer, and...

Constantly running:  bash (quite a few instances), sshd, screen, irssi (x20), icecast, ices2 (x2)

Top 3 apps that I use:
1) irssi (via ssh, then screen)
2) vi
3) firefox

if I could put 4, thunderbird would be there, but I hate email anyway, so I really don't care  :D

Somewhat, just with a really REALLY basic way of doing it. It doesn't have a fancy GUI like LBC or FARR, though.

Difficult to narrow the list down, BUT...

Aside from Firefox and its open tabs [gmail, yahoo mail, word press, google reader -- all geared to my blog], I use as a writer:

1 -- EssentialPIM Pro 2.0
2 -- KeyNote [gathering/organizing information for future articles/books]
3 -- Word 2003 [with Chapter by Chapter add-in]

Things like evernote an organizer pop peeper to check for mail and farr and a clipboard all start at startup and are used just as required, things I need, but as for the ones i actually start from choice,
Firefox is by far the most used
Word 2003
Idea Mason and Roughdraft (equal now)

Hmmm... Grrrr...

Ok - 1 problem with this thread - Browsers & Email clients - They're always going to be in there and not very interesting. I wish the topic were "Top 3 programs you use Plus your Email client & Browser..."

So, mini-rant over... errr... Almost... Opera and Outlook Express and Outlook and Firefox and IE... I hate having to use them all and wish I could settle on just one - not possible unfortuneately...

Oh - 1 more thing - Windows Explorer or replacement. It's not possible to use Windows without it. Ok - it's "possible", but very difficult... I use Windows Explorer... Too lazy to bother testing the trillions of replacements out there. Ok - there - mini-rant is 100% over.

Soooo.... Top 3 that I use:

1) Editplus - For everything!
2) Visual Studio Professional - For programming of course!
3) ALSong - I listen to music all day long, everyday!

Slow Down Music - Where I commit thought crimes...

1. Directory Opus
2. ClipMate 7 ( :-[ sorry mouser!)
3. Roboform

About those posts above.. I actually do do graphics, and whats illegal about it??

As a joke ken was probably suggesting that you must be in the business of beautifying a lot of, ahem…. pictures???

Now, about the top 3 programs...??  This is just very difficult to answer without more precise parameters. And the others are right: it's hard to escape MS explorer (or replacements-- am considering Directory Opus), browsers (am using Maxthon), etc.

Anyway... if excluding the above and many others, the programs that I seem to be using the most ("timewise"... does that exist??), actively (so, no antivirus, firewall, etc.), are :

- Farr (because... it IS the best.  :) Launchy and the other "launchers" are a lot less powerful, sorry...  ;) )
- Clipboard Help + Spell (because it does everything I need in a clipboard enhancer...)
- MS Word 2003 (because I live in it... In Maxthon 1.6, X1, AHK and Outlook 2003 too, should I add... But... only three, only three....)

An unfair list, for sure...  As these won't do much without at least 10 other essential -- or at least vey important... -- pals.

I double Agree... so let's see:
1. LaunchBarCommander [Get's me into applications]
2. RoboForm [Get's me into sites]
3. Then comes the long list of productivity applications, the top being, um, ummmmm: PSPad would be involved in most aspects of what I do I'd think?

Giving it some more thought, and after considering a few things about the purpose of providing this list of applications, I would have to revise it to not include anything that loads at startup, since it's research for some type of application launcher.

Since it has been suggested to leave out the boring browsers and email clients, I am going to have to change the entire list.

Here are the top 3 things that I use that are not a browser or email client, do not load at startup, aren't launched automatically from within or by another application, and are instead launched manually by some sort of shortcut:

1. Windows Live Writer (best desktop blogging application I have ever used)
2. Notepad 2 (I click the icon to open that more times a day than I can count)
3. Paintshop Pro

(I just took the top 3 that qualified for the revised list from my wakoopa profile)

Top three excluding browser and email.

1 . ToDoList    (keeps my life semi-organized)
2.  Stickies     (post it notes for the desktop, un-organized stuff)
3.  GoodSync   (thumb drive sync program, just started using, love it)

Good point App: I have not had Wakoopa installed for some time, but looking back and using your non-auto start suggestion I'd have:
1. MS Visual Studio
2. PS Pad
3. MS Excel (How could I forget all the time I spend on Excel?)
