I have compiled a list with the best available software, be it freeware, shareware or commercial (other than shareware). The list contains more than 1000 programs, has two parts (each on a separate page) and is organized into categories and subcategories for easy browsing.

Well, I wanted a list with the software that I always installed on my computer in a period when I reinstalled Windows frequently. At first the list contained only freeware, because that's what I use myself mostly, but then I thought that some very good programs are not freeware so without them the list would not be complete. In making the list (it took more than a year) I installed a large number of programs and decided to keep only those that are of good quality and that are updated regularly. The best programs are placed first so that the program from the top left corner of a section is the one that I use or that I recommend for others to use.

MakeUseOf.com put out its own "best of" freeware list here.  Had several programs I use.  Others that I'll probably try.

Not nearly as comprehensive as OP's site, though.
