I wish I could help ya... Maybe a little more information would be useful for others?
- qex, that's quicken right? What version are they from?
- How do you know they're corrupted? I mean, is it Quicken telling you that they're corrupted, or did you use some archiving software that took a crap or something?
- If you make copies of the files and open them in notepad can you make any sense of them? Like, does it look like if worse came to worse you could sort through them manually?
- Is it possible some kind of file recovery would help? Like, did you move them between drives or anything? If there's a chance, stop all file operations possible, don't defragment, don't move files, don't use the computer if you can help it.

Yes, its Quicken Expensable 7. I have the Vista patch installed too (not that it makes a difference). When I open any of the tax files, Quicken tells me that "The file you have tried to open is not an ExpensAble file." I had the computer crash on me randomly, no warning, no signs of problems, and took it to Firedog (Circuit City) after failing to be able to boot and get the files off. I now have the files, but they aren't worth anything. I don't *think* opening them in notepad (or any text application) would be logical, as its (as I said) about 6 years of every transaction made. File recovery (or ... de-corruption - for loss of a better word) program is what I am seeking, but none of the ones I have found support qex files  ) |

Give RecoverMyFiles a whirl - it might just be able to do this. *.qex is not listed in their supported file types, but they recover every type of financial file type under the sun, including a large number of Quicken files types, so I'd be willing to bet that it will do it. I don't have any way of testing it on my system so can't be sure! |

I was using Quicken 7 without the patch, but yes- they were working perfectly.
I am checking out RecoverMyFiles right now. Might just be what I need. *crosses fingers*

But you've never checked them out with the patch, before the crash? Have you checked out the post-crash files without the patch? - just trying to eliminate all error sources  |

Darn, probably corrupted files, then :/
Dunno what to do, a long shot would be contacting the Quicken developers, but... that's a really long shot, we're talking continental distances or perhaps even interplanetary.

Given a few corrupt copies of the relevant file, then Corruption Corrector can try to give you a fixed copy. |
