So you think the "5324604" part most likely is referring to my email address?

Sorry; I don't think you can have it a dollar five right now. As Darwin said, the link I gave was attached to my email address. You will have to trial the program for now. But if you buy *any* Ashampoo program, they will very soon almost spam you with offers to buy what else they have at a very cheap price. And they have a lot, and it really is cheap.

@ Loki15: To my memory (don't pick too much on me if I am wrong, please), they will give you a chance to buy the program right away at a cheap price (was it $7?). If they do, you should know in advance (now) that this is an one time offer - and an offer which is just fine.

Sadly Curt, the one for 7.99 is the photo optimizer :(.

I wouldn't go for that one! But if you buy the not so optimized thingy they will sooner or later offer you their Office at $5. But I guess it is best just to trial the Office 2006 for the moment being.

Yes, some people are talking very highly of it. WreckedCarz even said it is better than MS Office 2003 - but that is of course nonsense. But fine it is. And FREE

Wreckcarzz and others: if you are a student or teacher you can use openoffice.org's big brother (Star Office) for free. This is worth it if you are looking for more fonts, expanded dictionary and thesaurus and Adabas, which is their Access clone (database). Just FYI... It is very good (as is openoffice.org, of course).

However, PortableApps (http://www.portableapps.com) doesn't offer Star Office (not open source, as I can tell). :) I use my thumb drive at school and other locations with other computers so I use my PortableApps drive constantly, and I need to be able to take my stuff with me when I can't install programs to the computer itself.

Just my reason for sticking to OpenOffice

Another consideration, that I discovered two days ago when trying to help a colleague, is that Sun no longer allows you to DOWNLOAD StarOffice - you have to pay for the media and shipping to get it with an academic licence :( Anyway, I set him up with OpenOffice.org instead and the differences are minor, unless you really need the more powerful database app (Adabas vs. Data)...

Figured I would pitch in, if you dont want a complete office suite, maybe just a word processor, I suggest AbiWord its very good imho.  I recently downloaded OpenOffice.org, my only complaint was that despite saving in excel formate, a spreadsheet didnt work in Bablyon Glossary Builder. :(

Seems we are not allowed to attach XLS files, so I have zipped and attached an (Edit: almost) empty one here, made with my (Danish) Excel 2003:

(no xls!)

Hmmm; where did it go? The 1'st zip was empty!

I will try again a little later. Sorry for taking up your time!

Now is later: * Mappe1.zip (1.21 kB - downloaded 289 times.)

Curt, in both PlanMaker 2006 and Excel 2003 I get three worksheets labelled Ark1, Ark2, and Ark3. Only Ark1 contains anything and that is "50" in cell A:1. Is this what you posted? If so, what is the purpose? Loki, is this what you are getting as well, in openoffice.org? Spreadsheet should handle an Excel 2003 file no problem...

Yes; the first upload (which didn't show up) was empty, so I thought that just MAYBE it was because I didn't write anything inside the file - so I wrote "50" in the first box (because "today" (Saturday) was my 50' birthday) hoping it would trigger it to act as any other file. I have no idea as to WHY it doesn't behave as a file (in your Textmaker), except that this is really not a file but a folder ("mappe" translates "folder"). But what really is going on, I don't know!

I am most likely able to open the file in open office, I am yet to try that.  When I try it in Babylon Glossary Builder, I get the dialog along the lines of "You must have excel 2000+ installed for Babylong Glossary Builder" :(

On another note, happy birthday Curt!!
