Hi,

I have wanted this for years. It's a program that will notify a user who is not currently sitting at the screen, of certain event occurring. It would do this by monitoring a certain, user specified, pixel on the screen for either a change to a certain colour and then alerting the user of this change.

This would be useful as it allows the user to select what they want to be alerted to and doesn't require them to hope the author has added that functionality for alerting of the completion of the particular even that they wish to be notified of... which is very unlikely that the author would have done so.

Because this user isn't currently at the screen (perhaps watching TV in the next room) the program would notify the user of this change via a user specified sound. Or it could change the entire screen to a user selected colour, for users that don't have speakers (if my whole screen is red then the room that it's in turns red from the light so this would also alert me to a change).

If this program was aloud to run in multiple instances, the user could even set up multiple types of alerts, with a different sound for each.

So this basically has two elements, monitoring a pixel and alerting of a change. Everything else that I mentioned is of secondary importance and would only need adding if the programmer had time and it wasn't too complicated.

I hope you like my idea. :)

PixelNotifier watches pixels for color change, and if triggered, shows a message, plays a sound and fills the whole screen with color.

Features:
- Edit the ini-file to change the settings.
- Simple way to add new alarms.

You'll find the downloads and more info at Skrommel Software.

I just added options for 9 alarms, but that can easily be expanded. Also, I should maybe add the option to check for Window titles in the relative pixelcheck...

ShellCity is one of my favorites, Gerry! The tools there have saved my day many times!

Firstly the sorrys... I'm so, so, so sorry for not checking back before!!!! I had a bookmark set in plain sight, but I dunno what happened to it, perhaps a Firefox crash or something. So I only just remembered when I saw Mouser mention Donation Coder. Sorry also for my appalling writing, I don't know how your decrypted my request. I must have been half asleep and drunk when writing that. But I wasn't which is even more sad. :-[

Now for the important stuff....

You finished that 4 hours after I posted the request????!!!!! That is friggin' amazing!!!
Secondly it's perfect and does absolutely everything that I wanted. You even covered everything that wasn't essential.
Third adding additional features, such as multiple alarms in one app instance, Enable/Disable all alarms, automated alert additions (I would have been happy editing the ini file), alarms stored in an ini file, a message for each alert, a new and better name. Not to mention that it's open source!

:o HOLY CRAP!!!! :o PixelNotifier is incredible. Amazing work!! Five gold stars.... actually, I don't know if this breaks any of the laws of physics, but I'm changing that to 6 gold stars.

Thank you so much, I will use this often!

PS. Yeah Shellcity is a great place.
PPS. You have inspired me to check out AutoHotKey.

i love to read posts like these

Hello,

Would it be possible to change PixelNotifier such that an alert is triggered when the monitored pixel changes FROM it's current color value as opposed to when it changes TO a user defined, (anticipated), color value?

As is PixelNotifier is teasingly close to being able to perform a task that I have been seeking a solution to for over six years.

An additional feature that would make PixelNotifier absolutely perfect would be the the inclusion of the ability to allow a user defined, dragable selection window in the 10 x 10 pixel to 20 x 20 pixel range to be designated and having an alarm triggered if any pixels within that monitored area change.  Not having any experience in coding software I feel that this addition would be a much more involved project than the alarm triggered when a pixel's color value changes FROM it's current value to any other as expressed above.
