DC member Wordzilla has done it again..  He replaced our old pjirc java-based web interface to our chat channel on efnet with a much snappier one based on cgi::irc.

You don't need any special software to use this -- it runs completely from the server and your normal browser.

You can see a screenshot below.  To enter the chat room, just click the "CHAT!" button at the top of any forum page.

You'll then be able to (text) chat live with the rest of the donationcoder gang 24 hous a day, 7 days a week.  Meet your favorite members and find out who is the craziest..

Mouser, please, be advised that, as per my numb duh ploom, I am definitely the craziest person on/in/of/with DC, and, also, I use the, most, commas. So, the search(es) is/are over...

Thanks ...

Now the domain doesn't appear to be recognised at all www.mrmouser.com and I am having odd intermittent probles with the main forums too - sometimes posting or editing a message refuses to post or save (the page just freezes) and a little while ago I just got blank white pages across the whole website. I had no other issues with other websites.

Anyone else experiencing these freezes and blackouts?

Yes, www.mrmouser.com is hosted on my own server (which is currently down due to serious problems which can be summarized as "Kernel Panic"). >:( It'll probably take 12 hrs to restore.

DC main server experienced unknown temporary problems today as well.

I'm getting somewhere now (but not far). All I get is:

[00:05] *** Welcome to DonationCoder.com Web IRC
[00:05] *** Looking up irc.prison.net
[00:05] *** Connecting to irc.prison.net [209.249.249.126] port 6667
[00:05] -86.145.63.155- *** Processing connection to irc.Prison.NET
[00:05] -86.145.63.155- *** Looking up your hostname...
[00:05] -86.145.63.155- *** Checking Ident
[00:05] -86.145.63.155- *** Found your hostname
[00:05] -86.145.63.155- *** No Ident response
[00:05] *** dcCarol Erroneous Nickname DCC Bots
[00:05] *** Closing Link  127.0.0.1 (DCC Bots)
[00:05] *** Disconnected from IRC (click to reconnect)

If I click to reconnect I just get the same.

Could it be something to do with my DC id having a space "Carol Haynes" ???

Same error ...

I changed my forum ID to include the space when you first made me a moderator but now you have changed the rights I have so I can't remove the space again. Can you do it for me (simpler than fiddling with the code).

Actually looking at my profile my username doesn't have a space - it is just my display name. I still can't change it though! If that is the problem can you just remove the space in my display name. (Out of curiosity why can I no longer change this myself?)

I know what the problem is...

Adding 'dc' to the beginning of names creates the possibility of a name beginning with 'dcc' which efnet will not allow because they think it is a 'dcc bot' (file server bot used for distribution of warez & crap)

Maybe if your script can detect when someone enters a name beginning with 'C', and it could insert an underscore before it to separate it from the 'dc' prefix...that could fix the problem.

NOTE:
the old interface has been restored temporarily while we attend to some server issues, just so we can eliminate the possibility that the irc:cgi chat thing is contributing to the problem.

And, here, I thought mouser et al had simply had enough of me!

Thats because efnet bans non-idented clients. This is usually a lack of access to port 113.

josh is right about what causes the error, but what he forgot to mention is that there seems to be a problem with the web-based chat today, in that it's being blocked because of this today.

we should have it fixed by the end of the day.

until then -- please remember that we use the irc efnet network for our chat, and the best way to join the chat is to use an irc client and connect directly.
