I think it is the wave of porn related spam of recent weeks ... the internet is drwoning in the crap and ISPs are struggling to deal with it.
Everytime I open my email account I have about 40 emails of porn to delete manually (spam blocking seems to be getting circumvented a lot recently!)
If one of the bastards comes near me I'll show them how to get a bigger penis!

The junk filter in Thunderbird works very well! 1 or 2 slip by every week or so, but it catches a fifty or a hundred or so...
As for the 'net' (internetwork) being slower... I haven't noticed.
