7Zip - best archiver tool
« on: January 14, 2006, 03:40 AM »
Hello,

personally I would suggest 7-zip for the best archiver tool. It has better compression ratios than WinRAR, it's free and it has a really clean interface.

Only thing what I miss in 7zip is ISO support

I especially like the feature to encrypt all names inside of the archive - so noone can see the file-content of them.
The power/speed-ratio is also very good and its 7zip.dll can be used free in all programs (you only have to mention the creator and his site).

Compression ratio might be a bit better, but 7-zip still comes nowhere near WinRAR in terms of flexibility (command-line options, etc). Also, has NTFS streams & security been added to 7zip yet?

Lifehacker recently suggested ALZip as a prettier replacement for 7-zip.

And my choice for best free archiver is ZipGenius.
