Sri, you could use the Groups feature in QTTabBar the same way you use favourites. Groups actually will allow you open one or many directories with one click.

You see, I want to reduce that one extra step in reaching to my favorite folders and files in windows explorer. Currently in WE -> press ctrl+I and only then will you get the favorites displayed.

W/ QTT, you still have to click on the star dropdown and select the group you wanna launch.

You can also add the Vista touch to XP.
Meaning that you can get the icons of images to be the actual image(s). This saves the need on clicking on each individual image to take a peek at it. This method is the best for me.

Xentient Thumbnails (Freeware)A utility for replacing the generic icons of image files with thumbnail icons of the actual image. [Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP]
xentient.com/products/thumbnails/

ImageConvertor Plus is really nice also. It shows a preview of a selected image in the content menu, but is pricey. http://www.imageconverterplus.com/

You fellows are strange; why do you go to bed when it is almost high noon? Maybe you are situated the 'wrong' place? Move to Europe so I can buy you a beer (a genuine beer, that is: a pilsner!), and we can look at all the blondes and make sure they do have more fun...  8)
Sleep tight!

In that case, can I come over too?  Pilsners are the best, and so are blonds 8)

Sometimes I really miss Germany, but Pittsburgh has a German certified brewer, so I am doing better than most. If you are ever this way, you MUST try Penn Pilsner and/or Penn Dark (the two best brews he puts out).  They are just as good as the Euro-beers I had when living in Bitburg.

This is excellent! And the combination with QTTabBar's new thumbnail popups accellerates the pair to the absolute excellence, because now you don't have to 'search' for the right picture, but can see in a glance what might be the right one, and then just point at it, and up comes the BIG thumbnail from QT.

Sadly I cannot show you a screenshot of the QT thumbnail, but here is one (thumb) of the Xentient picturized icon thumbnails. Even though they are small it is a lot easier this way to locate what you are looking for:

If you have easy access to Penn Pilsner you need not go anywhere...
- except for a blonde :-)

By the way; Carlsberg and Tuborg are by far the two most sold beers from Denmark,
but by far not the two best... How come marketing is so more important than quality?

Ha ha... not unlike Budweiser in the States and Fosters in Australia - shipped and hyped around the world but far from the best that either country has to offer!

Ha ha... not unlike Budweiser in the States...

You did right to specify Budweizer "in the States". I have tasted the original Budweiser from the old Czechoslovakia and it is one of the best beers you can have. At all. And a lot older than Budweizer. But they never thought of protecting their name, so the Americans banded it. You can still have it, of course, but with a different name: Budvar. http://www.budvar.cz/en/index.html

[Edit: Oh; I see the American is also with a "s", Budweiser. Sorry!
Info: The original Czech Budweiser is in English pronounced 'Boodvaisor'.]

Yes, you're right Curt. I've tried the original Czech Budvar, which is why I specified that I was talking about the US one. I had a Czech flat-mate in university who was APPALLED by American Budweiser and incensed about the name. AFAIK, though, the "King of Beers" was originally brewed by a Czech immigrant to the States and he named it after the Czech version, probably never dreaming that it would become so successful!

Using Xentient Thumbnails is perfect for me. Because I don't have to bother clicking on each individual image for a preview. Instead I can open any folder and see the image immediately.

Oh...I forgot to mention to the rest of you(Darwin).

Xentient Thumbnails once installed onto XP just worxs.

It requires 0, yes ZERO resources in order to work.

Yeah, it has to be steered correcttly....but you know how very scrounge like I can be.

Any APP that adds to XP without nessitating...another start up blah blahg

Does clearly what it was made to do without adding to consumption...

Has all my AMENS!

I already did this. My XP install has all of the goodies from Vista "ideas" yet is better.

Add it...X to your toolbox.

In the mean time if you happen to come across a 3.2 northwood JLK.

I have 2 sticks of 256 PC800 to deal on.

Now....excuse me...hafta go figure out Hacketyhack + midnight in unleashed

XP or whatever OS you may be high on has the built-in capability to display thumbnails/icons at what ever size you should choose for each particular folder and the OS remembers it?

"What ever size"? Now that is new to me! I plead you to teach me how to do it - when your eyes can see straight again... :-) The big thumbnails one can have will not display date or file size, but I like those infos to be shown at all time when I am searching for some picture. So until someone teaches me how to view thumbnails at what ever size I would like, I will have to settle with the smalller ones only.
Talking of beer...: Hope you enjoyed your 'evening'! 8)

Curt...I'm still more a wake then what my freaking browser is. No, I won't leave you hanging  ;)

All are freeware and are ones I cant live without
I
Info tips - gives you an exaggerated/educated version about all highlighted items...is free
Those are all free, all just "perk" your OS  up and cause nothing else to start.

There are others all free...just extended versions.

I answered your initial question.

I gave you a freeware result.

- my English vocabulary is too limited. Will someone give me the essence?

---

...the "King of Beers" was originally brewed by a Czech immigrant ... probably never dreaming that it would become so successful!

They tried to launch it big time in Denmark as well, and in order to succeed they handled it to Carlsberg to do the marketing. For some time, a couple of years or five I guess, they had success. But slowly the interest has died. And that is okay with me; because there are many things from USA that I actually like, but the Bud is not one of them...
But, you know, some prefer brunettes, and some prefer blondes  :-*

Curt, you can change the size of the thumbnails in XP by editing the registry.

You can also do it using Tweak UI or ThumbTweak.

Thanks for the pointers Whitelion and Nighted - I had Xentient Thumbnails installed at one point but it's not there anymore (don't know when or why I removed it). I'm off to download it again!

You can also do it using Tweak UI

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/tweakui.htm may be better. The other is from before XP.
I haven't yet had time to test. Thanks for the links

I think this is what you want, Curt!

Open RegEdit

Go to HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Small Icon Size

Enter any number preferably from 16 to 48

LogOff and then back on.

Remember the orginal setting in case you don't like the results.

This setting will change the icon sizes under the detailed view within explorer windows.

Warning, it also effects the ones in the tray area too.

I spotted this thread the other day and decided to give QTT a whirl - I'm impressed, very impressed. The image preview/thumbnail on hover/mouse-over feature is a bloody marvel!

I could almost be persuaded to go back to WE/QTT as my main file browser but there's just one thing missing - the easy saving and application of user-defined 'column sets' in details view.

Yep, I know that Windows let you save your selected columns but, so far as I'm aware, you have to do that either on a folder by folder basis or apply one set to all folders.

I've searched for a third party app. that'll let you save and apply column sets to WE but no luck so far, if anyone knows of anything I'd appreciate you giving me the heads up.

Sorry for not noticing this a long time ago, sri   :-[

It is very easy to have Explorer to open with several folders at once:

Start UP Group

To register a group as Start Up Group, click the menu item of Group Menu with Control + Shift keys down.

I merely have five folders visible at launch:

Hello,
I know this is an old thread but as I found the old Instant ThumbView Free Edition 1.0, I have decided to put its link here.

Nope - turns out the link is the same, Curt. You have to click on the Union Jack (British Flag) to get the page in English!
