ExeGo comparison
« on: April 17, 2007, 06:36 PM »
Hi Mouser!

I really appreciate discovering your LBC. If you have a chance maybe you could take a look at ExeGo version 3.1.

http://scalpsoft.fre...xego3/screenshot.php

I don't like tool bars docking every where on my screen (so why am I bothering with LBC?)

I'm using ExeGo and it hides as soon as I choose an application to launch. I even assign the shortcut to a button on my mouse.

What I really like about LBC, is the way I can interact with it, a small icon for categorizing my stuff and then the menu that fall down and let me choose the application I need instead of a bunch of icon that I have to remember or, after a certain time, don't mean anything to me. If it could minimize as soon as I start my application it would be good. Maybe if I could add a text description with the main menu Icon (I can dream!), it would be great.

I don't have to use it as a docking bar but as an application launcher using the shortcut or maybe a top/bottom left/right screen corner sensor.

Finally, if I could drag my application and have LBC take the path, the icon and the name, THAT would be amazing.

Keep up the great work and thanks for reading me.

François

BTW, your Process Tamer is a killer application that solved a lot of headaches to me!

i really need to improve the autohiding features of LBC, and i do plan to make it toggle visibility with a hot key so that should help.

im not sure im completely following all of your requests:

Maybe if I could add a text description with the main menu Icon
could you explain what you mean?

Finally, if I could drag my application and have LBC take the path, the icon and the name, THAT would be amazing.
again, im not sure what you mean -- you can certainly drag items ONTO lbc and lbc buttons.

Thanks for taking the time to answer me.

Would it be possible to assign some text, as a label, to an icon to categorize my... categories  i.e. the logo of Firefox and the mention Internet (user defined) for all my software related to the... internet.

For the toggling visibility, it would be great if LBC was hiding itself (user parameter) as soon as it detect the launch of an application from within LBC.

Thanks again

F.

OK! You've got me!

That's effectively what I meant.   :-[

Maybe I should have spent a little more time reading and playing with LBC.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my request and, most of all for your patience in repeating for the nth times the basics about your LBC.

I really appreciate it.

I just finished my setup and I'm very satisfied of the look and the use of it.

If you ever find a way, if it's not already done (!), to make LBC pop-up on screen at the call of a keyboard shortcut and then disappear (go back in the tray) when I've chosen my application, I would be very satisfied.

Have a great weekend

François

it's on my todo list, so keep your eyes open for it in upcoming release.

Wow!

That's a quick answer!

Were you next to your keyboard waiting for my reply?  ;D

I really do appreciate the kind of guy you are and that's what's still fascinating me about the computer world. A bunch of maniac having fun, sharing and helping each other.

Fortunately for me, you're one of those wiz who doesn't think or at least doesn't make the rest of us fell like dummies!

Thanks and keep up your great work

Hi Mouser,

Thanks again for the help.

I know that you kept in mind my wish for a keyboard shortcut for accessing LBC.

May I push my luck a little? I realize that LBC will remember the last place it was on the next Windows launch. Could we get an option command that allow the user to force LBC to load minimized in the tray, as a launch bar or as a window that would keep the settings we fixed.

I made myself a nice window with three rows and four columns of icons but if I attach this window as a side bar, when I undock it, I loose my layout.

Finally, did I talk to you about a keyboard shortcut that could pop-up or pop-out LBC?    :P

Have a nice day

Hi Mouser,

No, I won't talk about «you know what» but I have a problem with LBC.

I've built plenty of command in  LBC but now, every time I had a new software, LBC refuse to recognize the icon. I can see it in the right pane of the preferences but it doesn't appear on the right side neither that in any menu of the application once the preferences window is closed.

Is there any limitation to the number of icons I can have in LBC?

Thanks for the help once again.

there is no limit to the number of icons..

when you add the icon does it show up in the left hand tree also?
does it matter what icon you add?

may i ask what version of lbc you are running?

try this:
backup your toolbars (go to Tools Menu -> Maintenance ->backup current files)
THEN do
Tools -> Maintenance -> Evaluate Tree Consistency.
and make sure it doesnt report any errors.

mail me your toolbar file and tell me which icon never shows and ill see if i can reproduce it.

Hi Mouser,

I'm running version 1.60.06

The icon doesn't show in the left pane and I tried using different icons and there's no difference.

I don't think I can send you my file, it's over 20 Meg in size!

Finally I tried the tree consistency and it's validated succesfully (955 nodes)!

Thanks again

20mb ! hah!
ok try this:
First, back up everything.  make a zip of your folder with your toolbars in it just in case.
(I really want you to backup stuff just in case things go wrong!)

then do tools -> maintenance -> cleanup unused image data
then do tools -> maintenance -> remove all but required icon pairs
then do tools -> maintenance -> cleanup unused image data
then do tools -> maintenance -> remove all but required icon pairs

then either save your toolbars or do file -> save as.
check file sizes.

ps. we might be better off debugging this over email until we get it solved and the report here the findings :)
