I have downloaded a movie its an avi file and windows media player 11 wont play it ...am I right in thinking I need to download and install a codec pack?? if so which one do I install Im a little confused there hundreds of them please help me
justice:
Yep you need the correct codec. WMP will try and download this automatically but doesn't support a lot of formats. You can either install a codec pack that adds in support for loads of formats or download a player that supports more formats out of the box.
For a codec pack see:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Pack_All_in_1.htm
For two FREE players with wider video support:

Nighted:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack is everything you need. It's always up to date.
Renegade:
ALShow is pretty good at identifying codecs and helping you download the correct one for a file.
