ok i'll add a fix that will allow you to tell farrfox not to autoscan for bookmark files and let you specify them explicitly.  i still wish i knew where it is finding all of these duplicate bookmark files on your system!

I had that problem with Opera, then i noticed that a lot of the duplicated  bookmarks were ones that I had deleted years ago (or so I thought!). When I'd removed previous versions of Opera I'd left their Application Data behind.  :-[

Two minor niggles:
Include Folder Path only shows the last \ for deeply nested folders
Date always shows current date, not date created or accessed
If you don't see how it can fail -
you haven't understood it properly.

mouser, you can find out where it gets all the duplicates by implementing this small feature..

I use the FarrFox plug-in all of the time for launching bookmarks. I was wondering if it would be possible to allow the FarrFox plug-in to pass keywords onto the launched bookmark. That way I can use all of the keywords defined within FireFox as well. Thanks.

Sure - I have a lot of keywords already defined in FireFox (for example for searching Google, work site, etc.) and was wondering if it would be possible to pass in an argument to the launched bookmark, just like you would pass an argument to the keyword within FireFox. If you aren't familiar with Keywords in FireFox (although I'm sure you are) look here: http://www.mozilla.o.../smart-keywords.html

Hopefully this better explains my point.

ah i understand..
so first things first, you know you can create easily regex supported aliases in FARR that will let you do this.
for example, check out the built in aliases for imdb, just type "imdb slackers" to open imdb and search for that movie.

the farr aliases are going to be faster than searching your ff bookmarks and so would usually be preferred.

however, that's not to say that it wouldnt be useful to add this support to farrfox, and it might be a nice excercise, so i will put it on my todo list.

still, i think you should consider just using normal farr aliases to do this because of the speed advantage.

Hey mouser - I create aliases for keywords that I use all of the time. I was intending to use the feature for some of the keywords that I don't use as often. The aliases within FARR are heads and tails above the Firefox keywords.

Is there a previous version of this that works with v1 of FARR?

Unfortunatelly, the answer is no.
Only v2 supports plugins. Still, you're better off with v2 anyways, because it'll do everything v1 does and more ;)

Adding FF bookmarks to search folders
« Reply #38 on: January 30, 2008, 03:05 PM »
Hi.

Plugin works fine if I prefix search with "ff", but have been wondering:

Is there a way to add the FireFox bookmarks to the default search folders so that I can give it a score and the bookmarks will pop up in my regular non-alias searches?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Any chance this can be tweaked to work with Firefox's gmarks plugin?  I can't remember the last time I bookmark'd anything in Firefox/IE, I live and die by my Google bookmakrs!!

If you're unfamiliar with what plugin I'm talking about you can find it here

:)

Edit: I second the request to give scoring weight to the bookmarks, if I understood the person a few posts up. Also fixed the url/link typo.

Great plugin.

One issue - I've tried to disable opera and IE favorites from the advanced options, but it doesn't take.  As soon as I go back into the advanced options, the checkboxes are checked again.  Is it a known issue?

I find the startup scan to be kind of annoying, can't you make a small index so you don't have to search every time? Cause it seems it's searching every time farr is restarted :)

Having a problem with bookmarks not refreshing and recently added ones never showing up.  Is it possible this is due to the difference in how FF3 handles bookmarks?  If so, is FF3 support in the cards?

I support this request. Would be great if I could choose when to reindex the bookmarks myself, something I sort of expect the "ff `" command could do.

i agree.. the solution needs to be a  background indexing and rescanning of updates which could take place behind the scenes, it's just something i havent gotten to because of core farr work.  the farrfox source code is open source c++ so if anyone feels like messing with it, please feel free :)

Will this plugin be updated to support Firefox 3 such that it can read the places.sqlite?
If this is too complicated, there is perhaps a possibilty to let firefox do a HTML export of its bookmarks automatically when "ff `" is typed and then the bookmarks.html is read?
