Amazing looking forum software -- AJAX/Web 2.0 at its best
« on: February 14, 2007, 10:50 PM »
I was digging around what I have come to consider the web's most complete and generally best directory of Web 2.0 services, http://www.emilychang.com/go/ehub, in search of a certain help community I used a few months back and was really into. I never saved a bookmark for it, and now I'm confronted with a new problem.. if I save the bookmark in my Opera bookmarks and later format my HD or something and forget to back up my bookmarks, I will have lost it again. What I did this time, to makre sure I never lose this one again, was to create a new message in GMail, enter the service's name into the message body and next to it some tags, like "live help, chat, answers, questions". I'll never forget about that site again!

Anyway, that was the first paragraph and it was WAY off topic. Here goes. Check out this forum software: http://www.blursoft.com/metaForum/

It's got screenshots descriptions, videos.. check it out and tell me you don't like it! It looks amazing. I can't wait to try this somewhere, though I have never seen it in action :(. Someone tell me when they come across a forum that uses this software.

Thanks!

SWEET. Looks hot, seriously. What's funny is that Metaforum and this Vanilla one are surprisingly similar... look at both their "root" forum pages. See those three tabs on top? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Vanilla would have been the original - it is open-source so I guess Metaforum can do what they please.. but I can promise Vanilla is an original product  :) Certainly is sweet!

p.s. Nice to see you.. long time no talk

Vanilla looks pretty nice actually - but also pretty vanilla. I would miss emoticons and avatars on a vanilla-vanilla forum :). Searching and the like does seem nifty though.

They are easily added. I believe http://www.boagworld.com/forum/ is Vanilla :)

I tried browsing their forums to see how it works. It ddid not feel like I was living in future or I was supposed to mesmerized? I did not feel any real presence of ajax implementation at all.

Am I too negative?

WTF?

Weird. I saw something that looked like a robot post in here.. some sort of spam. Now it's gone. Er.. I guess that's good news!

I saw one before kartal's post (I guess that's what revived the thread?), and reported it as spam.

Revived me, too. Been ages since I posted here. Hi everyone :D. All because of spam.

If only it served that purpose more often! :)

BTW, I haven't seen Vanilla or Metaforum in action anywhere, really.. seems they're not exactly enjoying widespread adoption. I need to re-check out their websites to see what's new with them. Also, I need to just point out how awesomely responsive these DC forums are. Super fast! SMF is awesome :)

I set up some Vanilla forums a couple years ago. They've since been all-but-abandoned, but they've been nice.

Judging by the blog for MetaForum, that project seems pretty dead.. the last post came through in October of 2007.. the latest version of Vanilla came out May 15th 2009, though, so I guess the Vanilla project is still going. Still, I've never come across Vanilla in my travels of the web. I wonder why. It's just not catching on, despite all the sexiness..

The MetaForum software rather reminds me of WordPress' bbPress, which is being actively developed I believe.
