New (?) music page
« on: April 16, 2007, 12:56 PM »
Thought I'd just share some music pages I use with you guys. I'm sure many of you have heard of, and use, these. But hopefully there will be something new for someone :) Anyways;

http://www.pandora.com - Makes a new webradio-channel for you, based on a "seed", one or more bands or songs of your choice. Great for finding new music thats similar to the ones you like.

http://www.last.fm - collects stats of what you listen to, and gives suggestions for new music based on your listening pattern. Can also use it to listen to new music.

http://pandorafm.real-ity.com/ - combines the two above. Listen to pandora, feed the stats to last.fm

Last one I just discovered 3 days ago. Pretty "web 2.0" ish, so my guess its pretty new.

http://www.finetune.com - Pretty cool. Can make playlists of your favorite tracks and share em. embed a player into myspace or blogger or whatever you use.

http://www.finetune.com/playlist/1445077 - My playlist on finetune.

Edit: If people feel like it, we can make this thread into a "share your finetune playlist" thread.. ?

pandora/last.fm isn't exactly new, it's over 1.5 years old.
it still is a very interesting idea.
i'm just wondering that it's still around and noone took it down.

Note that warbird actually said

I'm sure many of you have heard of, and use, these. But hopefully there will be something new for someone

which implies not so much that the sites are new but rather that they may be "new to the reader", as in they've been around for a while but for whatever reason the reader had never heard of them before...

True, I'm aware that pandora and last.fm has been around for a few years. But finetune.com i just discovered recently, and with the "web 2.0"ness of it, I figured its probably pretty new.  I really like the idea of the shareable playlists you can make with em, and was hoping some more people would make and share playlists here. Doesn't seem like thats happening though  :(

This is slightly offtopic, but speaking of new music, take a listen to my new organ trio recording.  My friend (the drummer) and I have been wanting to record some organ jazz for a long time and we finally did:
