free, small, fast uninstaller replacement
« on: January 26, 2007, 07:46 AM »
And It's free (went to payware in v. 2.0, but 1.6 is free):
http://www.goldfiles...ortal.php?fileid=382

Superfast, efficient. Doesn't clean stuff like Smarty Uninstaller, just uses the app.'s own uninstaller.

just uses the app.'s own uninstaller.

In that case, please, what advantages does it have over the app's own uninstaller or over Total Uninstall, or one of the other small uninstallers like MyUninstaller by Nir Sofer?

mentioned in this thread here:
https://www.donation...83.msg33577#msg33577

and a couple of posts later Carol says:
No - it doesn't mention dates - but it does nice things like open RegEdit and jump to the relevant part for each app or jump to the installation folder. You can also trawl through 'hidden' installs.

Thanks, tomos...  Might not be much use to me on the machine I use at work, as IT Dept. lock us out of RegEdit for "security reasons."

I use Safarp....it's VERY fast. I just type remove using SlickRun, and I don't have to reach for my mouse to remove a program. When Safarp loads you can start typing the letters of the program you want to remove then hit Enter to remove it.

I use it in Fast Mode with Icons turned off and hotfixes not shown.

the first one - no-one mentioned the name yet  :D  - Uninstall Tool 1.6.6 - it's portable.

It does load icons so reckon Safarp would be quicker that way.

do any of these sort entries based on date? to me that is a must-have feature.

Unistall tool is as fast as safarp even when safarp doesn't load icons (!).
@mouser: none seem to sort on date of install, safarp can do date of 'last use'.

the 'date' in question is the one regarding time of 'install' - not the date of 'last use'. so, it doesn't look like safarp has it?

No. But the date of install is a non essential feature for me. If I'm going to remove something, I always know what it is I'm removing.

Maybe the author would add it in the future? I don't know.

i find date of install to be important.

Frequently when you install a program i find it hard to predict how it will be named in the install database - it can have company name sometimes, sometimes not.  By sorting on date of install (forgot to mention its critical that it can sort on this field!), i can not only find the program i just installed that i want to uninstall, but i can see the recent apps i installed that i forgot about.

myunisntall is slow to boot. Maybe I'll keep both (different purposes) since the use that mouser and nudone describe really is an interesting feature.

you may find myuninstall loads quicker if you select the menu option:

view > quick mode

from the same menu you can also select 'don't load icons' which may make it even quicker. maybe.

Uninstall Tool has also sort by installation date option. The latest version (2.1) is very very fast.

You can get a free licence if you translate it into your native language.

Thanks for the lead on safarp.  It is a nice program.  I love Uninstall Tool 2, but I am not sure that it is work $20 at this point.  (I do still have 1.6.6 installed, but safarp appears to be quicker)

Uninstall Tool v1.6 >:( piece of crap erased all my installation dates that I was able to see with myuninstaller. Version 2.0 is good, but too expensive. I'll stick with myuninstaller.

Every time I ran Uninstall Tool v1.6 it changed installation dates of all my installed apps to the current time and date. Has this thing happened to anyone else?

Here's one you guys may not have heard of, Revo Uninstaller. It's freeware. I still prefer Safarp though because it is very lightweight.

Safarp simply invokes the uninstall routine registered in Windows, just like the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs (ARP) applet.

It's really just a lightweight version of ARP that doesn't take sooo...   long....  to....  load....   (what-the-#$% is ARP doing when it loads anyway?).

I saw a description of that somewhere, probably on The Old New Thing blog. It does a lot of (imho, superfluous) crap, to detect things like how much the app is used, how big it is, etc. This means lot of registry access (not too bad), and a whole bunch of harddrive access as well, for each and every entry.

But it seems that Safarp does the same, judging by Nighted's screenshot. Does it use a different method?
