Just received the following warning email from Ashampoo ...

ATTENTION: Illegal Ashampoo® WinOptimizer 4 version in the Internet

the Ashampoo WinOptimizer 4 just appeared on several major download
sites like www.download.com and www.cnet.com as an illegal fake
version with wrong product number and version number. The official
Ashampoo WinOptimizer 4 will be released on January 17th, 2007.

Slimy. It's just incredible how some people will put so much effort into being scummy.

Lashiec:
The same happened with jv16 PowerTools, which was distributed as four different programs which were the same cracked PowerTools. I think the same people that did this was responsible of the cracked WinOptimizer. And then again, they were posted at Cnet, like this one. One begins to wonder about what measures do Cnet take when testing software for inclusion on its repository...

That's why it's always better to download software from the author's homepage of from tiny pages like File Hippo, to avoid this kind of crap >:(
