Brilliant Windows based Recovery environment ...
« on: August 08, 2005, 11:35 AM »
This is brilliant - boot Windows XP/2003 from a CD without using hard disc at all to allow file recovery etc.

See http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

It is dead easy to use:

Run the program,

Insert your Win XP/2003 installer CD

and it produces an ISO file to burn to CD which will boot your system (provided your system supports booting from CD).

It also provides various useful tools etc.

The programme was recommended by Fred Langa (of LangaList fame).

Have fun

Carol

i've been using pebuilder for some time now - definately worth investigating the things you can add to it like Nero Burning Rom (if you have a valid key).

Any idea how to add extra drivers etc. ?

I have a wireless network, and my machine has an ethernet card too. It recognises the ethernet but not the wireless ?

Also I have other media reader writers etc. that could be useful additions.

How do you add Nero by the way?

Cheers

not really sure about the wireless drives (or wifi in general) but i wouldn't be too surprised if someone hasn't made something to work with pebuilder.

as for nero have it's best to read from the source. if you look about two thirds of the way down the pebuilder home page you'll see a section labelled 'Plugin included with PE Builder, but the user needs to buy the program'.

under that heading is the details for nero - opens from another link.

you probably find something for wireless somewhere around all that section on the page.

happy hunting.

Thanks for that ...

I have found this version (linked from the nu site)

http://www.reatogo.de/

which automates the building of the boot CD and also integrates hundreds of plugins etc.

It appears to include device detection and driver integration during the build process too (which included my WiFi controller).

I haven't tested the finished boot disc yet but it looks promising ...

that sounds good. i can't remember seeing the reatogo.de link so i'll have to try that myself.

i hope everything goes smoothly with your test.

just seen this on todays shell extension city page...

http://www.ubcd4win.com/

might be worth looking at for anyone interested in pebuilder.

That's useful - I have used UBCD in its previous incarnations. I hadn't realised they had integrated with BartPE.

Good news I think - downloading as I type ;-)
