Text recognition in any application for FARR
« on: December 19, 2006, 11:23 PM »
I would like to suggest a feature similar to Direct Access (www.nagarsoft.com) and similar apps. The idea is that you can be in any application and have keywords typed that are recognized by FARR and when one is recognized, a hotkey prompt is displayed asking you to press a select keystroke to launch said keyword. Pressing that key launches the process/file associated with the keyword.

This has proven most useful and I think would be a great addition. What do you all think?

Nice idea. I have licenses for both DirectAccess and for ActiveWords and one point to be made with respect to FARR going down this path is the increase that it will require on its footprint. One of the things that makes FARR so popular is how light on resources it is, I *think* that adding text recognition will impact it in this area.

I do think it will impact it, however, there could be an addon module that might be enabled in FARR. That way, if you want it, you can download said addin module and enable it in the options dialog.

Yeah... hadn't thought of that! Good idea. I wonder if indexing could be handled the same way? The modular approach would really make FARR a killer app.

Why not use AHK?

IF i were to add such a thing, it would surely be optional since it would eat up extra cpu cycles even just sitting in the background.
