I think we need a new icon for FARR. It should be nice high color 16x16. I think it would be nice to keep the round circle theme, maybe something similar to Agnitum Outpost look: Anyone up for trying to design the new FARR icon?

Personally I rather like the current symbol/icon and always wonder why Outpost chooses a questionmark. I am using OP and I am happy with it. However, from a firewall I primarily expect certainty and reassurance , not sure if the questionmark is the best symbol for this.

I spent about 30 minutes trying to generate a 3D blue ball with Cody inside it... But was defeated by a lack of ability!

Yeah, I hate when that happens, and it does happen too often

Here's a little something I whipped up based on the current FARR icon and a modified 8ball icon found on the net. Just for kicks ... and to play with my new piece of software, the Microangelo Toolset, which I won in the DC December Software drawing

after playing around with round background and keyboard key images i concluded you can't see much at 16x16 pixels. as you can see (can't see) the square version i've included here is still hard to see at 16x16.
i think it might be better to stick with the running man icon but maybe with a more up to date 'rounded' background. i think TucknDar's 8 ball icon looks very nice but it's also going to lose detail at 16x16 pixels.

the billiard ball looks quite nice in the tray, though as predicted you cant really tell whats on it: nudone, could you send me the 16x16 and 32x32 images and i'll try yours.

The 8 ball looks nice, and it'll look nicer at 256x256 (for Vista compliance). Nudone's first suggestion is also good, but I'm not so sure about the second one...

I really like the blue billiard running man . . . perhaps just making an alternate tray icon that has an empty whiute circle so as to not have the blue smudge in there might work? It would still be a recognizeable icon, even if slightly different from the main application one.
Edit: How about a white circle with a thick blue border and the running robot in the middle? Might scale better than the pool ball.

looks like tray icons may be 15x15 if you can specify exactly which icon is used in the tray then we could design a 16x16 pixel icon that looks good when reduced to 15x15 by the tray. you then use the standard 16x16 for the titlebars, etc and then use the special 15x15 just for the tray.

i've just measured the size of my system tray icons...
they are 16x16 as you would expect. so something strange is going on with the farr icon.

I like the new entry field. The way it melds with the interface. So, yes, this gets my vote.

ps. farr has options to show the edit box a the bottom of the window, instead of top by default, and to hide the statusbar completely. does anyone use either of these options?

as long as it looks kind of 'normal' without any skin thing i'll be very happy. but then, if skinning is the only way, i can live with that - as long as it's not that big fat ugly xp style titlbar.
as for the F icon - we can make the background a bit more fancy if that's the way things go - if desired.

I tried them but didn't care for them personally, I like my statusbar on and the edit at the top. By the way, if you see a post somewhere about me not seeing the option to change the skin, ignore it. I found it.
