Simple, freeware, soundcard output recorder?
« on: December 14, 2006, 04:45 AM »
I need a simple, no bells'n'whistles program that lets me record output from a soundcard, if anyone knows of one?  I will be using it to record output from the JAWS screen reader.

Does anyone have a favourite? A google search revealed many shareware applications, nothing free/donationware though...  :(

Thanks for any recommendations in advance  :D

Audiograbber has a nice sound recorder built into it as well.

It has features such as scheduling as well. I've used it many times to record from radio.
I`m a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class, especially since I rule.

one thing that's important is that:
i think people are suggesting programs to record audio from one of the sound card LINE IN ports.
but it seems to mean you want to do basically a loop-back type of recording, recording from the sound card's own output.

Total Recorder is the grandfather of all such apps and is a seriously powerful tool; it is shareware but not terribly expensive.

Some soundcards may let you select "what you hear" as the input line, in which case the normal programs above would probably work..

Let us know what you finally go with.

Pure and simple: Windows Sound Recorder.

Go into advanced settings of your volume control and change the recording source from Microphone to Synth or something like that. Whatever noise your speakers make will be recorded, so be sure to turn off any IM or other apps that might beep at you.

That's how I've done it for about 5 years now.

If you also want to record MIDI output
Hubi's Loopback Device looks promising.

It's also fairly easy to toss audio data around a Linux (or similar) system with JACK, and a Windows port is apparently in the works. Watch that, JACK is way cool...

There's also Ntonyx but it's a hefty $49.00 USD...
