i've been noticing more and more spam and identity theft emails that can look quite convincingly like the real thing.

some of you may have created paypal accounts just to donate to this site so i thought it was worth making a special point of this for those of you not accustomed to such emails.

bottom line: if you ever get an email from any bank, credit card, paypal, any place where you might have financial/identity information, that says "click here to solve this problem" - just ignore it.

and don't be fooled into thinking that you can rely on the 'from' field in the email - it's easily faked.

All real emails from financial sites will just tell you to go log into your account as normal, and will not try to get you to click on such links.

so, if you ever get such an email and think it might be legitimate, just go to normal site you always go to and see if there is anything about the issue - never click on "click here" links.  often you can hold the mouse over a link and see the true url is something very different.
