musikCube 1.0 Final Released
« on: December 04, 2006, 11:47:25 PM »
musikCube is an open source grid-centric media player that has received a lot of attention on the DonationCoder.com forums and is a fantasticly clean program designed for those who prefer clean organization above exotic skins.

Quote
musikCube is an mp3 player for the modern generation. It helps you just listen to what you want to hear, while offering innovative features not seen elsewhere. For the technical user, musikCube is based on an embedded SQL database engine known as sqlite. For the non technical user, that means its fast. Really fast. "Dynamic playlists" allow fully automatic, randomized playback of songs based on your observed listening habits. The more you listen, the smarter it gets. It also features browsable, user reorderable playlists.

Cube also makes transferring audio between home and work very easy with it's unique support for removable storage devices. A "removable storage device" is any flash memory, thumb drive, or portable mp3 player that acts as a hard disk when you plug it in.

It's hard to me to move from my old and beloved Foobar, but they are doing a good job with musikCube. Maybe if they adds support to Winamp AVS I can switch over. (Because AVS is the only thing I'm missing in Foobar)

I've been using musikCube for a long while now and I think it is a fantastic piece of software. Gonna grab me this release while it's still hot :-* .

Wow, I thought development had stopped, so I switched over to foobar :)

I like musikCube because of it's clean and no-nonsense design - which works out of the box, without requiring a lot of manual tweaking and messed up scripts :)

I am officially in love.  Finally an application that manages an entire collection of music elegantly, seamlessly, and without consuming all my system resources!

Musikcube has been one of my favs for a year or two now.

It always reminds me of the difference between a NAD amplifier and a City Lights Boom Box.

NAD - simple, uncomplicated, limited controls, plain looking, - great sound
Boom Box - 1 million lights, massive grills, lots of dialls and sliders, - crap sound

Musikcube - =NAD
A lot of others - =Boom Box

My kids love it, now theres a solid reference.

Well, tried it and here's my veredict:

Pros:
-Nice and clean interface
-Lightweight and fast
-Fastest searches
-Dynamic playlists

Cons:
-Can't open cuesheet files (.cue)
-Doesn't integrates with the new Last.fm player (so I can't vote to Last.fm on songs in my machines)
-No custom display of information in playlist

My first reason to do not use it is the cuesheet support, I preffer to rip albums in a single file because gapless and that, but they will never support it.

I like open source idea, but don't like the project admins says things like: -if you don't like our way go back to foobar.

'nuff said.

I would have preferred more 'completeness' for 1.0 - i.e. Last.fm support...

but nice offering, thanks for posting

Hm, does the musikCube developer specifically say he won't support cue-sheets, or just that he isn't planning to write the code himself?

I've been using WinAmp 2.8 Lite for years, refusing to upgrade to the latest versions because I didn't like the bloat, but a little unhappy that new file formats and other features were not available.

Now I have downloaded musikCube and I love it! It even works in Vista without problems.
