Giveawayoftheday - Jetstart Pro - for a very limited period

(1/1)

patteo:
This looks interesting :

Caveat : Although this is freeware for a very limited period, you have to install it within the giveaway window. That means if you re-install or buy a new laptop etc, the software cannot be re-installed which renders it kind of useless - so I tend to give such software a miss no matter how good it looks. But I guess it could still be useful until your next major OS install or re-install.

That is unless, there's a tool available that legally help you move registry entries and all to a new installation. Does anyone know of any such tools ?

Giveaway of the Day » JetStart Pro
"JetStart Pro
December 4, 2006

JetStart Pro is a unique tool, that enables you to manage your Windows Start Menu more efficiently, and launch your favorite or recently accessed applications with just a few clicks. The program offers multiple ways to access your program: You can sort them into categories, select them from a list of recently used or newly added programs or search from them by keyword.

JetStart Pro adds an alternative menu to the Start button that appears when you hover your mouse over it (click on it to get the regular menu) and shows your categorized programs as well as recently used applications. In addition, you can access them from a tray icon, hidden edge menus, and also create a floating toolbar that can be displayed by clicking the icon.

this program is mentioned in Farr's help file and i don't see why you need it if you already have Farr.. ;)

patteo:
Actually I agree with you.

But I think there are others who may like a fixed structure which I think this program provides.

Of course I think Find and Run Robot is by far the more useful.

However, the real issue is the type of license that it offers, that you must install within a certain time window. Which means if you have a computer crash and or just a system or OS upgrade, you basically lose the ability to use the program unless of course you are now hooked on it and go buy a new license, unless you have a utility to move the software over legally.

This issue becomes more important when as the site says, they have garnered enough traffic lately to start having known names software to join their giveawayoftheday deals : see below.

yes, this giveaway thingy seems like a new category of software license - like 'one night only' gigs.. this is a good choice for trivial and/or new programs, that normally we wouldn't care to install. and looking back, they did give away some cool programs but i don't think i will take up the offer for data-related programs..
