How Microsoft Chooses New Sounds

(1/2) > >>

app103:
Some musicians spend 18 months working on a whole album. At Microsoft Corp., that's how long it took to perfect just four seconds of sound.

Of course, this isn't just any four-second clip. It's the sound — a soft da-dum, da-dumm, with a lush fade-out — that millions of computer users will hear every day, and perhaps thousands of times in total, when they turn on computers running Microsoft's forthcoming Windows Vista operating system.

18 months for that?? G... These guys spend way too much time (and money) in stuff that doesn't really matter!
And at the end, i still prefer ubuntu's start sound. Way more discreet that vista's.

But thanks for the post, app. As i won't have vista so soon, now i know yet one more reason not be sorry for that ;)

app103:
18 months to come up with a sound I would replace the first day of running it. (not that I plan on using Vista EVER)

What a waste of time!

Josh:
Heck, I rather enjoy the new sounds. I am glad they are changing the dated sounds. Yes, 18 months is a long time, but hey, when you have those resources (and I bet it wasnt but maybe a small team working on this project), why not.

Now, May I ask why every thread that comes on DC.Com about vista has to be turned into a negative thread about "I hate vista" or "I will never use vista". Cant we just make a single thread for users like this and leave the others open for users who actually might want to use vista and dont really care whether or not you specifically will be choosing not too? I respect peoples rights to have an opinion about vista, but that opinion doesnt need to be put into every vista thread available. Thats like the orbits download guy posting in every thread about his product.

Microsoft is planning not to allow people to change the startup sound.
