Tray Balloon messages auto-extinction ?
« on: November 09, 2006, 07:38 AM »
Hi,

Is there a way to have balloon messages, when activated, to automatically disappear after a few seconds without having to click on them ?  Thanks.

Great, thanks !

BTW, I much prefer process tamer than a similar software I used in the past : PC-Boost, by pgware.  After a few hours of PCBoost being activated, XP becomes really unresponsive.  I don't observe this at all with process tamer.

You can run this script that may disable the balloon messages.

'Disable Windows XP Balloon Tips'

In Win XP Fixes at this site-

you can off course just turn off balloon tips in process tamer only, which is a bit safer, since you might not want to lose all balloon messages.

Actually I have done that on a PC I have set up for someone else, I didn't want the user to be disturbed by this info, he has already enough trouble with standard windows operation (he is over 85 and not very computer oriented).

Thanks.

Along the same lines as "auto extinction", I would like to request that the balloon tips go away when you hover over them, or alternatively after about 1-2 seconds.  It is of no point to display them longer than that, since the situation is likely to change.

The problem I am having consistently, is that I use a double status bar (two rows of icons) and the balloon tips from Process Tamer (PT) are the only ones that stay around and get in the way of clicking on application icons in the status bar.  Often I will go to click on the browser (or other running application) icon and it is completely covered by the PT icon and I have to click to close the balloon tip to get to the browser icon (or whichever)

Even MORE importantly is that when I am dragging and dropping from one window to another, I often drag to the status bar, wait for the other application to pop up and then drag into that application.  When PT has a balloon tip up and it covers an icon, it is often the application that I have to "pop-up" that it is covering.  Pretty lousy to sit there and wait for the balloon tip to go away (NOT ever) so that the application will come up, but instead, having to drop whatever I'm dragging and go back and do it again.

It's really a minor point, but it comes up more often than you might think and it really is the only complaint I have about PT!

(That was a left handed compliment to a very nice program that does what it is supposed to.)

Cheers!

PS. . . I *do not* want to turn off balloon tips.  They are useful for my system and use of PT.   Often the information is something that I need to know.  I just want then to behave more politely.
