Anyway, Orbit Downloader looks a lot like FDM with less options. So if anyone needs a free download manager I'd recommend to use http://www.freedownloadmanager.org instead of this little clone.

Screenshots: http://www.freedownl....org/screenshots.htm
I don't think Orbit is a clone of FDM or FDM is a clone of FalshGet....... Every download manager is good. The key is which fit you. It has lots of unique features which FDM does not have. And Orbit can grab flash games from webpages is useful for me .

Hi all:

I'm the developer of Orbit downloader, Our official support email address is
< orbitdownloader  at  gmail.com >. Welcome for your suggestion.

1. orbitnet.exe is an optional program which uses the DHT p2p network to locate additional
copies of the program you are downloading, much like torrent does,so that it can download
pieces of the file from different servers and combine them, in order to speed up download.
You can't disable it in current version, But in next version, you can disable it during
  installation & options menu.

2. We never install any toolbar/adware/spyware to system, We are contacting with the anti-virus vendor
to solve the mis-alarm problem.

3. Orbit Downloader have no relationship with adware "Orbit Explorer", Orbit name come from NASA's website,
we think it is cool, and we do some google search to find it contain any adware/spyware before, but unfortunately, we doesn't find it.

4. Orbit Downloader was building from scratch, It have no relationship with FDM.

Thank for every advice. We want to do better, and don't be evil :(

Sincerely
Orbit Team

Hi Orbitdev, first I'd like to thank you for taking the time to help us clear this up. I'm sure many members here will find it useful. As you know I did post with some evidence I gathered against your product, if it turned out to a false alarm, I will apologize on the forum.

With all due respect and no offense, I have to admit that I do question your sincerity in the case:

Under CNET's software submission rules, you are NOT allowed to post your reviews if you are the developer himself.. LET ALONE posting any "user review", especially with another user account.

One thing i would like clarification on is,
even when you exit the program the orbitnet.exe stays running in the background.

what exactly is it doing - what is its purpose?

Its running even after closing Orbit because the developer forgot to include the ability to have it be closed along with Orbit. That will change in a later version.

IMHO, it really takes a lot of efforts to forget including this "ability".  :)

Anyway, to err is human.

Actually you would be surprised how easy it is to forget it when working with multiple processes.

IMHO he should make the orbitnet.exe as a windows service also then have the user have the option to keep it running in the background as a service or if they don't want it as a service then have it run like it does but make sure it closes when they close the main program.

Let's say hello to Daniel, the developer of Orbit! ;D

https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=124.msg43592#msg43592

It now appears to me that this malware alarm is just some misunderstandings backed up by sirens from some "super-heuristic" anti-spyware programs.

Looking forward to seeing your next release, Daniel!  :)

Just to keep up-to-date...seen today on OrbitDev-Blog:

Orbit V1.0.3 is released

We has released Orbit v1.0.3 yesterday.

changelog:
* Add a manual setting to enable/disable p2p connection.
* Fix a bug in Drop Zone.
* Fix a bug in Orbit update.

I just downloaded and installed the new version. The promised "disable p2p" setting is there. After switching it off and restart OrbitDownloader there is no more "orbitnet.exe" process and after exiting the main program no "orbit*" process is left over anymore.

So thanks to the Orbit-Devs to respect the wish and the OrbitDownloader. I am using OrbitDev now for a while and i am sure the Devs are serious and kind and OrbitDev is a great and free DownloadManager.

I only have still a little problem with OrbitDev ("How to download temporarily without it, when a download with it will fail"). In FreeDownloadManager i can click on "Cancel" and the Download will be handed over to normal IE-Download, what not happens in OrbitDownloader. But i am sure i can clarify this in near future with the Orbit-Devs.

CU all

Thanks for posting this...

I find it pretty interesting, as Orbit supports Metalink and a good number of people are using it because of that. Of course I wouldn't want to endorse a spyware product. For me, Orbit seems to work really well.

I have noticed some spam emails with titles taken from filenames in my My Documents directory. Pretty specific filenames. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't want to imply this is from Orbit, could be from anything.

It is my duty to revive this old topic. CAUTION!!! STAY AWAY FROM ORBIT DOWNLOADER.

As posted in another thread, when my trial version of NetTransport expired about 6 months ago, I looked for free alternatives. Orbit Downloader was the Download Manager that came forward, and seemed to do the job in the first days. Why pay for something when I can get something similar for free? or so I thought.

After a few weeks, I could not control Orbit Downloader. Every link I clicked in my browser opened an Orbit pop up and a few seconds later, my entire ADSL connection was down. I regularly got choppy phone calls with my IP phone, my ADSL line went down at random intervals. This was a nightmare.

I even had a technician from my ISP company come into my house and trouble shoot my internet connection for 3 hours. He could not find anything wrong with the connection. The fact is that Orbit Downloaded was launching DoS attacks from my laptop and my ADSL router shut itself down in protection.

I then removed Orbit Downloader, tried to clean as much of the registry as possible. I still get intermitted ADSL cuts which might still be caused by some infection I got from Orbit, who knows?

The best decision I made was to purchase NetTransport. I am not a big fan of spending money on software, but this is one of the 2 pieces of software that I actually bought (Microsoft Windows / Office apart). The other one is SpaceMonger, a fantastic visualizer of the files on my hard drive.

Removing Orbit Downloader and purchasing NetTransport has been worth every penny of my $29.95 investment.
