Antique software
« on: June 29, 2006, 07:11 PM »
So i was looking for a stand-alone very (VERY) simple database program that would let me add and organize phone numbers, addresses, etc. and did not want any of the current fashionable PIM's or such. I wanted text in sortable squares with support for simple macros and not a penny more, get my drift? To make a short google search sound even shorter, I ended up at http://tinyapps.org/text.html and looking at their offerings of spreadsheet/database apps....

Hmmm... VisiCalc? You mean THE VisiCalc? (cobwebs... clearing...) NO WAY!!

Yep, and here's the proof: http://www.bricklin....ory/vcexecutable.htm
...and the story behind it: http://static.userla...chive/msg008583.html
...and reaction to such a singularly cool event: http://www.bricklin....postingreactions.htm
Seems others have followed suit and authors of groundbreaking software of yesteryear have re-acquired distribution rights to the fruits of their labors, check it out: http://www.bricklin....story/othersites.htm

Maybe some of you's know of similar efforts and would like to pass it along...

Read about your need for the low-end phone-book database... I have one that I made a little while ago, using Borland C++ Builder 4.0... If you would like a new one, it would give me something to do in the mean time... All you would have to do, is tell me what ya want (a scope)... I would be very happy to help out!

Thanks for the offer Renox, but the more I looked into it, the more I realized I needed something simpler. After learning a few things about using ini files with Autohotkey, I came up with something that perfectly suited my needs. Something Quick and Dirty... http://www.autohotke...ic.php?p=86821#86821
