HamRadio has finished the shootout review of Icon Tools.

It's available a bit early to supporting members of the site here:

It will be open to the public in a few days.
Any suggestions you have for improving it would be welcome - error corrections, missing features, etc.

Great work HamRadio!!!

Interesting! A market where there are no real standout free tools? I wonder how active this software market is...

P.S. Nice work on the review. :)

There is also IconForge at http://www.cursorarts.com/ worth a look.

Look like a good review

Icon Plugin for Photoshop enhances Adobe Photoshop with an ability to export and import Windows icons (.ico).

ahhh...2 posts related to this..I can't keep up!

I'll just quote myself here:

Great job, hamradio!

One thing I didn't see mentioned, though, was the ability to import graphics to base your icons on.

I know Microangelo allows you to import .bmp files that you have created in another graphics program. This is my preferred way of creating icons since it gives me much more control over the image creation and I can use any plugins I want in the process by creating the image for the icon in Paintshop Pro.

I also know that Microangelo allows you to export a .gif file of your icon as well as an .ico file, which can be handy for developers that need a small graphic for their PAD files.

HamRadio,

Which other freeware icon editors did you try?  A list might be useful.  I have a note of Fx Icon Maker 32 (freeware) from somewhere.

The Icon Tool Shootout Review has been updated with CursorArts IconForge. Also, SnIco Edit has been added back since we have located the url of SnideSoft again.  :)
