NOD32 update - does auto update work?

(1/2) > >>

Carol Haynes:
On my system NOD32 is set to automatically update virus definitions but only offer program updates. I was running version 2.50.25 and even when I manually ran updates it said my system was up to date.

Today I went to the ESET website and was surprised to find version 2.51.26 posted.

I'm not sure what is going on with the automatic update system but it couldn't even find an update when I asked it to - if you run NOD32 you might want to check your version an update manually if necessary.

The download link is: http://www.nod32.com/index_dw.htm and you will need you susbcription user name and password.

Just checked, mine is running 2.50.25 as well.. so i guess mine didn't auto update (or offer) either..

hwtan:

Some of these versions arent pushed out because they fix issues that dont affect a wide number of consumers. Hence, why I am running 2.51.28

NeilS:
I was on 2.50.something until fairly recently, and didn't notice much change when I updated to 2.51.26, so it does seem as if they don't bother you with the program update unless you really need it. (That's not to say that there isn't an important difference under the hood, but the website only has a warning to pre-2.5 users to get 2.5, so 2.51 doesn't seem particularly critical).

I think I prefer this, to be honest. McAfee was forever wanting a reboot after a program update, and I'll bet you most of those updates were completely pointless.
