forum search improvement
« on: October 09, 2006, 08:05 AM »
got an "unreleased" minor patch for the forum search from smf people this morning, it seems to improve search; fixes a bug where subjects weren't being searched properly and scoring was a bit messed up.  let me know if you find any anomolies in search, hopefully we will soon have a perfect forum search function.

Hmm, missing or off limits? Are you a supporter? :D

And really I don't care much about access just now. Just want to know if it'll be included in 1.1 final.

For sure. I have strongly considering doing so myself, and probably will soon as SMF is pretty well solidifying itself as my favorite forum system (free or otherwise - bought a license of vB and I don't like it :D).

But, er... any idea if this stuff is going to be included in 1.1 final? ;)

I have a good idea for improving the forum search.

Just use the information used to make the Firefox search plugin so that the forum search uses google to search itself. I get much better results from Google, which says the forum search is really pathetic.

Deozaan: Notice that google results have a problem: the new posts aren't listed, since they still haven't been indexed by google.

I hadn't thought of that. Sound like Google will be as accurate at finding new posts as the current search is at finding any posts.  :P
