Does anyone know any windows explorer shell/alternative which lets me edit (not just view) text files within the program itself w/o having to open a separate text editor like notepad?

There's a free plug-in for Dopus that will let you do this as well. From the original posting on the Dopus forum :

Source Code Viewer is a freeware plugin for Directory Opus. It provides an enhanced viewer pane for viewing your source code using the freeware Scintilla control (http://www.scintilla.org). This control provides a host of features including syntax colouring, line numbering, code block folding, word wrapping and brace matching amongst others.

The plugin also allows you to edit your code, search for text, goto lines, add your own languages, etc.

Version 2 (beta): http://www.jdnet.co....ex.php?showtopic=119 -- See also: http://resource.dopu.../viewtopic.php?t=992

Version 2 (beta) requires you to install a special version of Scintilla Text Editor (SciTE): SciTE with Extensions

i think all explorer alternatives worth its salt would have this option or at least provide a hotkey to shell out to an editor of our choice. anyway, you may want to try this: A43 File Management Utility.

A43screenshot.pngwindows explorer alternative that lets me edit .txt files within the prog itself

lanux, A43 looks good. Do you know if it's possible to have it such that when a .txt file is selected, it is automatically shown in the 'Text editor' as opposed to having to drag and drop it there?

Also, the program's homepage says that dual panes are possible in A43, but I can't see how.

Everyone else, thanks v. much for your replies. I'll be evaluating DO soon.

I installed TC but immediately deleted it as it was v. ugly.

i'm not sure about that but there is a toolbar button for opening the selected in text editor. plus a "Ctrl+Alt+T" shortcut.

Click on "FM Extra". whew, that was a easy one. ;)
