For those AI researchers who wish they had participated.. it looks like Netflix is going to have another similar contest with another $million dollars in prizes..

Based on your experience on the contest and the difficulty of the algorithm would you say that it was impossible for a single individual to achieve the goal and thus win the prize?

absolutely no reason one person could not have won netflix (or win the new one), using nothing more than a normal desktop computer.
