Modern Chat vs. BBS

(1/1)

Deozaan:
Found a humorous fictionalized account of two times coexisting, bringing the modern chatter into the world of the old BBS systems.

It's over a month old, but I just heard about it today:

As an ex-sysop, I wonder occasionally how a modern chatter would do on an old style BBS.

Sysop: Hey, i need to take the bbs off for a minute to get fido.
User: asl?
Sysop: It'll just be down for a few minutes, call back later, ok?
User: wtf hax?
Sysop: Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying. I've got to reboot too, so I'm going to disconnect you.
User: omfg hax, wtf is tis, spiware? a55h013!
Sysop: Do you require medical assistance? I've got your address on record from the age-check, would you like me to call a medic?
User: roflroflflfoolol who r u

Hahahahah good ol' times!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Those were the times *sigh* Fido was very fun except for the boards about jokes, those were the up-tightest places in the history of electronic communication.

A very funny find  :D

allen:
So true. Communication versus linguistic bastardization.  Sadly, we all know who wins . . .

housetier:
Yeah fido sadly is dead. all them former sysops should move on now :P

I wonder what written language will look like in 20 years. And what speech will sound like... Both will change dramatically over time, and maybe this "electronc communication thing" will accelerate the process. Personally, I find this exciting: it's all so dynamic, so ALIVE!

allen:
I hate change. You can imagine where I stand on the "excitement" factor :)
